We have done roast pot's & lamb chop's, came out a little bit over done (learning) & yesterday we done a fry-up (saus, mush, bacon, black pudding & hash browns) cooked in the oven & the food honestly tatsed really good. Doing a roast chicken, pot's & veg in a mo.
Well worth the £25 I got that oven for IMO.

Re: Halogen Oven
Decided to buy this one, which arrived today
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James...2010989&sr=8-1
Decided to put two rolls in it, with cheese and ham, as a test
Roll was crispy, cheese and butter melted, tasted great, so, so far so good.
Gonna try chicken breasts tomorrow.

Re: Halogen Oven
Seems to cook things very fast, perhaps a little to fast, heh, but, if you put something on the lower shelf/rack, with something on top, it doesn't cook it at all
So that's a big dissapointment
Put frozen chips on the top shelf, they were brown/cooked within 10 minutes (normally 30+ in the gas oven), but the chicken underneath was still pink
Ah welk.

Ok, results were very good in the end.
We have a normal gas oven (non fan assisted) which takes about 15 minutes to pre heat.
The chips take about 25-30 minutes to cook, when in a pre heated oven, so 45 minutes total.
The chicken breasts, with cheese/bacon and BBQ sauce normally take 20+25 (after adding the sauce), so about the same time.
Chips took 10 minutes to cook in this new gadget, the chicken took about 12 minutes, plus another 10 with the sauce, so a massive reduction in time
And oddly enough, it did taste better to, chicken was very hot, but moist, the chips were browned all over and hot.
Just takes a bit of getting used to

Re: Halogen Oven
We cooked a 1.8kg chuk in about 70 mins, roast's were 45min & roast carrots were 30min (about 20% quicker than conventional oven)
Done Youngs fish in john smiths batter & Iceland wedges last nite.
Started the fish @ 225c on bottom rack after 10 mins added wedges on top rack & cooked for a further 15 mins, all were cooked to perfection & the fish in batter was perfection.
I think a rule of thumb would be 15-20% off conventional times.
Did the Andrew James come with the extender ring? If not try and source one as we have noticed that without it food cooked on the top shelf does seem to cook\look cooked a lot quicker even though it may not be.
Aside from our first go (lamb & pots) everything has come out ok with the food tasting much better than normally.
Also another thing that is worth some consideration is that the cost for the cooking time of the food drops considerably with no pre-heating & a faster cook time along with a 1.3-1.4kwh max usage.

Re: Halogen Oven
Good advice, thanks
Yea the one I bought came with a whole bunch of extras, including the extender ring.
Heated up some of those tesco barbecue wings today, it did those in about 10 minutes, which would've normally taken 30 in the normal gas oven, plus it seems to cook things alot more evenly, without drying the food out, which is nice.

Re: Halogen Oven
I haven't used my normal oven since getting the halogen, although you do have to be careful where you put food, as the stuff on top cooks before the stuff on the bottom has even got luke warm.
Not sure why it does that, ah well. :P

Not noticed that TBH AdamD
I have cooked from frozen hash browns on the top rack, field mushrooms, sausages & black pudding not frozen on the bottom rack for 20 mins @ 175c/180c with no issues of under cooking on the bottom rack. I do always use the extender ring though as without it it would seem that the top rack would be a bit to close to the heating element which would cause things to cook a lot quicker on the top rack without it.
