Vehicle Gap Insurance is it worth it on new car ?

Hi all

If I was to buy a new car around £22,000 would it be worth taking out GAP insurance in case the car is stolen or written off (cover's difference between book value and invoice). It was something the garage was 'pushing' me to buy but can get it a lot cheaper online.

Would welcome any views and any recommendations on company to but from

Many thanks for your time

Regards

Mike

Re: Vehicle Gap Insurance is it worth it on new car ?

I have had gap insurance on my last 3 cars, I have had to claim on it once 'for the 2nd car' the difference between the book and invoice was nearly 4k and as the gap 'only' cost £450 it was a real no brainer.

If I remember correctly they only last 3yrs but for me it's something I will always have now, do as you say shop around though as I saved £150 on the garage quote and it was with the same underwriter.

Any insurance is always a gamble. It comes down to whether you want to take the risk yourself or not.

Buying through the dealer is always likely to be more money since they get a commision, whereas if you buy online, the commision is avoided?

It might be worth looking at the deferred option.
I have used VW insurance on my last 2 new cars and for the first year the cover is new for old.
I've just ordered a new Tiguan for March delivery and will probably go for the deferred option on that.
