Technical hitch causes half-hour firework display to go off in under a minute
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6QtigLJD_4
Quote:
A technical hitch saw Oban’s community fireworks all released at the same time at Mossfield Stadium tonight,November 4 2011.
The display, which usually lasts around half an hour, barely lasted a minute as a spectacular number of fireworks went off simultaneously. After a minute of darkness,Councillor Roddie McCuish, one of the members of the organising committee, had to apologise and tell the crowd of hundreds who had gathered to watch the annual fireworks, that it was all over.

Watch the video. It's cruel and yet so, so funny.

Good display, just a bit short.

Re: Technical hitch causes half-hour firework display to go off in under a minute
Some of the people commenting on it at the Oban Times website said it was the best firework display they'd ever seen. It may have been short, but you would normally have to be at a New Years' display in a major world city to see anything like that density of pyrotechnics.

Personally, I'm a great fan of the general public setting off their fireworks all at once at a fixed time. Midnight at 31 December seems a good choice. You don't have to live in a major world city to see anything like that density. Any medium sized city will do.
Bonfire night seems a muted affair with people setting off their fireworks at random times.

The company behind a fireworks display in Oban which lasted just 50 seconds has offered to provide another show free of charge later in the month.

It was originally suggested they would do something for Christmas or Hogmanay...

I don't know about where you were this year, but the lead up and bonfire night itself seemed quieter this year than past years. Just did not seem as though there were as many fireworks being let off.

The town of Oban is to be treated to a second "high-impact" fireworks display after its first attempt lasted less than a minute.

Only just seen this.
What a great display that was - I think it would have been a bit boring had that lot taken 30 minutes.
