Almost Arrested Yesterday for a run in with a Street Preacher

I was in Swansea Centre and the reason i was there basically was to buy some new Socks which i bought from Peacocks.

Anyway i was approaching Poundland there was a guy with his wife there Preaching their version of the Gospil as they do just attacking whatever they could. A Guy then started arguing with him and told him to F*Off and was really laying into him so i went into Poundland to get a drink and walked outside and i was standing by the benches packing the bag that the girl hadnt done correctly and he started off again this time even more so after the argument..

He looked at two guys sitting down who possibly could have been Muslim and said to them quite blatently "DID U KNOW THAT ISLAM HAS FULL CONTROL OF DRUGS IN THE WEST!!" at which point his wife also said to them the words "Yes, U DO" in other words basically stating that because they could be Muslim they could also be Islamic Fundimentalists of some sort.

I was just walking away and he started his nonsence about homosexuals and a man shouldn't lay with another man and he turns to me for no reason what so ever looks at me and said "Your a Pervert!". At this point i flipped and the air was blue and i called him a [ADMIN EDIT - do not attempt to avoid the swear filter] and so on and so on! for about 5 mins i was there screaming at him and he was claiming that God had called me this to which i said well i didnt hear a voice from nowhere it came from your mouth, at which point a girl working for Waterstones came over and i said i was being over the top and i said "ME OVER THE TOP! so its ok for him to insinuate people are Islamic Extremists for no reason and call whoever he wishes a pervert??! so with that i started walking off i said to him which made him totally clam up "You mate are a [ADMIN EDIT - do not attempt to avoid the swear filter] and the sooner God takes people like you from this earth the better. With that two Police officers were walking up they had been called and i went onto them and said i wished to make a complaint.

The Male officer said to me "The Guy who is shouting is he ugly?" and i laughed and said "well i wont call names but he could be seen as that". He said Dont worry about it we were called to a breach of the peace go home and no more shouting otherwise you may get arrested but we are well aware of this guy we have had many complaints and we are going to talk to him.

I have also phoned the Council to see if he needs a licence to preach on a public street and if he does find out if he has one and if so get it revoked for preaching Hate and thats exactly what he did.

[ADMIN EDIT - do not publicly argue/question a team member's actions - as you well know the correct procedure is to contact that team member (or another) directly]

So in the long run he wound you up and you reacted in such a way that you almost got arrested... way to go!!!... NOT..

Next time try calling the police in yourself instead of being the reactionist that the "preacher" was looking for in his warped sense of reality

You don't need a licence to preach publically, but there are sufficient laws in the UK to tackle hate crime.

Hmmm, there are some sersiously crazy people on the streets. Best thing is to ignore them.

he who shouts first is the loser. it means you are the first to lose control, and therefore any control or rational thought processing to actions taken have gone out of the window. next time, take a step back and think about how better to deal with the situation. shouting off gets you NOWHERE, neither does raising a hand to someone.

shouting or getting aggressive only goes to show the other person (and those witnessing) they have won by getting an emotive response from you - which is EXACTLY what they wanted. by staying calm and talking softly back to them and making your point in a controlled and logical fashion will then go to show them up as being the more immature as they will then be shown as the ones shouting off and getting irate, purely because their voice is raised in comparison to your own - they may not even need to be shouting in order to be perceived that way so long as your tone in lower. you may find that continuing to speak to them at a lower tone, without showing outwardly any loss of emotive control will actually increase their own control loss, thus making them look even more foolish.

falling to red mist moments will always leave you as the loser, regardless of your cause.

So basically, if the girl in Poundland had done her job properly and packed your bag to your satisfaction, you wouldn't have had to pause on the street within range of the preacher and wouldn't have felt compelled to prove you were equally as good as him at yelling unpleasantries at the top of your voice.

Silly Poundland girl. You just can't get the staff nowadays.

Well Chris you fell hook, line and sinker for the preacher who will be so self satisfied with your over reaction and will be feeling extra smug with himself.

So next time you go to town you will need to be on the lookout as he now sees you as the perfect foil for his hate filled tirade and as soon as he sees you he will point at you and call you more names as your arrest will be well within his agenda.

Do as he would preach if he was a true man of the cloth and just "Turn the other cheek and walk away" you will feel so much better for it.
