Fiesta bulb replacement help please
Hello,
Here are the specs: Ford Fiesta, 56 plate.
I am having a nightmare replacing my headlights.
It took me most morning to get the headlight unit out and now I cant seem to figure it out.
The right hand side is the problem and it does not work on dipped beam.
However it will work on full beam.
Now I am trying to find the two different bulbs as the manual I was given says one is H7 and one is H1 bulbs.
But I can only seem to see the light coming from the centre bulb as shown on the working left hand side. Both dipped and full beams seem to come from the same bulb.
Unless I'm being crazy and can't see where the other bulb is.
The only other bulb available to get to is the sidelights.
Can anyone shed any light on the matter?
Thanks.
halcyon.

Could be a dual filament bulb, lots of cars use them.

Buy a Haynes manual? They're well worth the price.

Yeah that is what I thought but it looks like I only have one bulb in there.
Thanks for your help, I think raging bull could be right, that it is a dual filament bulb.
I've been looking further and it seems to be one bulb so I'm going to get it out and go to the shop tomorrow with it.
A quick google seems to point to a H4 bulb.
My manual must be for the wrong version car as it mentions two bulbs.

Re: Fiesta bulb replacement help please
Many thanks. It is all beginning to make sense now.
I wonder why I have a manual with two then. I think they may have given me the wrong book.

because car manufacturers have a habit of changing things after the manuals have been printed .... use the manual as a guide only as not everything on the car will be as described in the manual

Re: Fiesta bulb replacement help please
Perhaps i can help.
I am a mechanic and if i remember correctly it has two separate bulbs fitted.
Removal of the headlamp is quite easy and it has only two fixing screws holding it in place but requires a bit of careful tweaking past the grille.
Also check the plug that connects the loom to the headlamp by unplugging it and inspecting the terminals for corrosion.

Your car must be a bit odd as various websites etc stated that the 56-plates had 2 bulbs

Re: Fiesta bulb replacement help please
I think the bulb type ia a 499 which is a single filament which has two terminals on it. If it is a two filament bulb it will have three terminals on it.
Here is a link to the bulb type i think is fitted to your car.

And here is what a two filament 472 bulb looks like.

Re: Fiesta bulb replacement help please
OK finally got this sorted.
My manual and many other places seemed to say it had two bulbs, a H1 and H7 but once I got the unit off and out it is a different case.
Note: It isnt easy at first. I found that once the screws are out and the grille is off you need to nudge the bumper forward to help you lift the headlight unit out.
Oh and you will need a Torx screwdriver.
So it turns out I have a H4 bulb which is just one bulb that provides both dipped and full beams.
It uses two filaments inside the bulb.
I now know how to change it so I'm happy and it is all working but it was a bit of a challenge to begin with.
Hopefully now next time it will be easier.
Thanks everyone for your input and help you offered.
