Carrier Bags in Wales are now 5p a time everywhere
Theres a few things here that i would like to know.
1. How is poundland going to manage?
2. When going to collect a prescription as prescription charges are all free here in wales will they issue free carrier bags if there are a number of drugs as u cant be expected like myself who has just ordered 9 different things to lug them all round.
3. How is the old age going to manage? A lot of them wont understand.

Never mind the old age, a lot of other people are finding it hard to understand too.

If they can understand the price of the shopping in the bag, they're going to be able to understand that the bag now has a price also, surely? Not all old people are addled and demented you know.

No, in true Welsh-Assembly style there are rules to trip you up.
If you buy meat (say from a market stall) you are permitted one free bag for it. But if you have open fruit in there too, you are no longer allowed to have it for free.
That's just one of many examples from our Chuckle Brother style Assembly.

Re: Carrier Bags in Wales are now 5p a time everywhere
I see no problem with charging for carrier bags (provided it's implemented in a transparent manner) to be honest.
I usually take a big sturdy carrier bag with me when I go to the supermarket, and have a regular plastic one sitting in my backpack. It's very rare that I need to get one from a shop, and it amazes me what a load of plastic is wasted by people that leave the supermarket with ten or more carrier bags.

You appear to have missed the point of the legislation. Rather than expecting a free bag, you could take one with you.

I agree entirely.
I have no problem with forgetting to put a spare carrier bag in my handbag (and then paying for another) - or one/more kept in the car. My clause would be: I'll pay for it but if, and IF, you will recycle them then I will bring you 10 back. It's all in the overheads anyway.

Re: Carrier Bags in Wales are now 5p a time everywhere
It's already stopped me impulse-buying 'cos I didn't take a bag, or a big enough bag.
Tesco staff earlier today were having a hard time with customers that demanded a bag for their ONE carrot, another for their baguettes which are wrapped in open-ended paper tubes, et al.... Day 4 of this new "law" and already people are starting to pick its rules apart. Shelves were cleared of pedal-bin liners I noticed....
Outside, someone was helping themselves to dozens of bags from the recycling container. I wonder if they'll sell them outside Tesco for 4p each?

Who 'profits' out of it?
I've been to Halfords and she says do you want a bag it's only 2p for charity, and I've said no.
I can see a few people where they would get a free bag and now being told that they're 5p now abandoning the stuff at the counter.
it's the principle of it. if you spend all that money then the least they can do is give you a bag to put it all in.

They will give you a bag for it. You just have to pay the bank-breaking amount of 5p for one.

Re: Carrier Bags in Wales are now 5p a time everywhere
The assembly "hopes" the money will find its way to "worthwhile causes" but outlets with less than 10 staff don't have to record anything, so perhaps they'll just keep the cash.
It all started with moans about the environment 'cos "plastic bags take thousands of years to break down", but the law now applies to paper bags and biodegradeable bags.
Typical Noddy assembly balderdash. Schoolkids will be forced to learn Welsh at this rate..... even if they can't already speak English 'cos they drifted in from foreign climes....
... oh yeah, that started years ago!

Just as you would if you didn't have enough money for what you were buying - put something back.

Re: Carrier Bags in Wales are now 5p a time everywhere
Poundland in my town have been charging 1p for a bag since Jan 1st this year and Aldi have always charged for a bag (this is in England). I havent got a problem with it really as I`ve got a few of those cloth ones around and if I forget to take one, then so be it I`ll have to pay for it.

No. I want the bag for free like it was before.
