Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Hi all,
Did loads of prep for the assessment day acting on experiences some guys had on his forum. However turns out i didnt have to do anything like evryone else did!!!
Still i got accepted and start as an installer next month - finally out of retail. Happy days. I know its hard work but looking forward to it.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
What did you actually do on the day? Was your day different to ours? Seems everyone's day is something different, another person I have spoken to tells me he had his assessment day and throughout the day they took people out 1 by 1 for an interview. While others have the assessment day on the morning and if done good there stay in the afternoon for the interviews.
I guess they mix things up but it seems each area has different ways of doing it.

Split up into groups of 4. 4 tasks to do. First task was pratical puttng connectors on Coax cable both ends. They gave all the tools and showed you before hand.
Then had to do communication test. 2 of us back to back in a room and was asked to describe a picture while the other one drew it on paper without using the words on the picture we were asked to describe.
Team building exercise. Scenario on an A4 piece of paper, we had to decide what we were going to do and prioritise the list of items. Then we all had to present it together.
If we got through the 3 tasks then a 30 min interview at the end. I was bloody nervous and didnt do the first task too well but managed to complete it. It was a tough but great day and the guys were great.
Really looking forward to it to now. I know there is a lot to learn but it seems they are very hot on customer service.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Totally different from what I had to do last Monday.
3 Minute presentation on whatever we wanted, with a power point or flipchart.
Then wiring a phone master socket and extension, followed by doing a group exercise to make a egg container which has to help a raw egg survive a 3 meter drop. Whoever was the cheapest to make and survive would win it. (Bit of fun at the end tbh).
If we were successful we got a phonecall on Thursday for a interview for this Thursday, which I was told would last around 45 min so should be interesting.
Congrats on the success and hope you enjoy the job.
You done the training yet? or does your training start next month? What area you working in?

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
So are you through to the interview then? If so good luck.
No training yet but got to do a week at my base in Portsmouth then 3 weeks in Dudley at the training center.
Should imagine i would have a buddy after that. Gonna get my head down and get on with it, cant wait.
If you get through might see you up there. What area are you going for?
So surprised i got through, its nice to know that they see something in me that they didnt with the others but i do sympathise with the other candidates they were all nice people, but then someone has to be chosen

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
I will be going for my Interview on Thursday at 9am. Hopefully if I am successful then its possible I will start in November as it makes sense to send people to the Dudley part in a big group sort of like a class room.
The area I will be at is Uddingston in Scotland if all goes well. No idea how many people I will be going up against but there are 2 spaces so double the chances. Lets just hope I can go in there being the first and set the the standard high enuf to get me 1 of those spaces hehe.

Nah, they're saving the best til last. Me. Haha.
Robbie what sort of stuff did your one to one cover? Was told on the phone it was a competency based interview so i'm guessing much like the phone interview?

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Just back from mine, was in for about an hour. Not sure how much of that was waffle though!
Good luck to all you guys that went, at least it's done now and we can all sit back and, er, relax? I'm crap at reading interviews so from my point of view, I went and did my best. S'all we can do though I guess!
I also parked round the back and wandered round for ten minutes wondering how the hell to get in, asked a random tech in his van and he told me to go round the corner where I was greeted with a big shiny entrance. Doh.
BTW who spilled the beans about the forum? Mentioned a couple of names to Dan and he said "yeah some of the other guys mentioned a cable forum". Best edit some posts so we don't say anything bad if they come looking haha.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
The beans was more than likely me (as I was first in lol) when I was discussing with them about how I researched the job. Told them about speaking with employees on the forum to further my research to be prepared for all eventualities. Makes sense hehe.
The fact that you guys have been on here for the same reasons will go well imo you can never be too prepared.
I went into the back aswell but pulled the tall guy who took photo's at the assessment day and he directed me to the front.
Good luck to everyone fingers crossed all round.
