Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Thanks stewie,
I should be ok, my only concern is the presentation! This hasn't been mentioned by the virgin recruitment team at all and when I asked if there is anything I should prepare for they said no??
Are you starting alongside another tech stewie?

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Like I say, perhaps they have changed the structure of the day for you?? It makes sense to vary the theme of the recruitment days, as so much information is available online to potential employees, it gives you such a head start, so to change it from time to time makes commercial sense!
I have no idea if I am starting alongside anyone as yet, but I am so so looking forward to it like you would not believe.
Good luck and just do your best and be yourself.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Thanks for the advice Stewie! Sounds good!
Where did you go for your day? Also with the wiring test did they give instructions to follow or are you on your own? I know how to do it but it's been a looong time! I just looked at a 25 core cable I use to connect and god knows how I remembered the order of the wiring!
Thanks
Damo

Hi all, new here. Have been searching and seen plenty of threads on the subject but this is the most relevant...
OP, how long did it take to find out about the recruitment day after your phone interview? Had mine for Bellshill last Thursday and waiting for some good news, i'd assume if successful i'd be put on the same day on the 10th? Also did they contact you by phone or email?

Hey there, after my first telephone interview (Sort of pre-screening) I got a phonecall a day later to say I would have a 2nd interview over the phone. After the 2nd interview I found out I was successful 3 hours after i finished the interview. They told me by phone and booked me into the 10/10/11.
The Bellshill assessment day is my next step then if I am successful I assume I will have a final face to face interview before being told if I was being employed or not.
But I have to get by the dreaded presentation I just hope I can do what I could do at work and stand in front of 13 people and talk without being nervous. (Although from what i've read it could be more like 40 people)
hope this helps, Kev.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
That's not good news, it's been three days since my second phone interview. I've heard of people being given phone numbers too to chase up but i wasnt given one.
Gah. Might be another one to forget about then

I wouldnt give up hope, thing is maybe I got lucky and got onto the assessment day as there was still places. You could be on a holding list until they got enough to do another assessment day, as most people seem to say they only take about 1/10 of the total people at these places to the face to face interview stage.
Its funny as I only knew about the Virgin Media role from the guy who installed my TiVo box 3 weeks ago.
Keep the optimism up until u know for certain.
Kev.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
True. 10th Oct is still a while away and there may even be spaces for that. Just hope i'm not on a holding list for ages, unemployment's killing me! Will update here when I find out though, could still end up on the same day as you.
What questions did you get on the interview? I got:
Describe one time you had to maintain excellent high standards
Describe one time you had to build a rapport with a customer to resolve a problem
And describe one time you had to use fault finding to resolve a recurring issue

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Honestly can't remember my questions lol. They were similar I think, the answer to the first one I gave the woman on the phone used it to answer the 2nd question so I answered the first question twice lol.
Be good to know some1 in a sense at that day so fingers crossed for ya.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Over a week later and still no word. Hope i'm not being hung out to dry but not even a rejection email yet. Did someone say they were given a phone number to chase it up? The chap who interviewed me said no more than "a couple of days"

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Hey I am sure it will be fine cws.
My turn is coming up fast and doubting what I am talking about. Is it ok to start talking about what a prison officer does then go onto the qualities needed followed by the skills ive learned then ending with how those skills would transfer over to the role i am applying for?

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
I suppose so? From what I've heard it can be on anything you want, and doesn't necessarily have to relate to the job you're applying for. Would be a good idea to point out key qualities but I wouldn't use it as a job interview, per se. If I was doing one i'd use it to demonstrate good qualities about me and make it interesting, something that would keep the room's attention.
It's been said a lot before that football/cars etc have been done to death, by doing it on the prison service you're making sure you're not just "another one of THOSE guys".
Two weeks since my interview and still not a peep. Emailed the recruitment email address and they said..
"Hi Chris,
Thank you for your email.
We currently do not have any information on the results of telephone interviews due to the high numbers of results that need processing.
As soon as your results are through you will get an email letting you know how you've done.
Thanks
Virgin media recruitment. "
So that basically means it's not a no. Yet. Who knows when i'll find out..?

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Well dont count urself out so quickly, when I applied for first scotrail as a train driver and did my first wave of tests i waited 5 weeks before hearing i had passed. Failed at the last hurdle tho. (Later found out they had filled the position by train drivers from virgin trains and other companies, pretty much told everyone no who had applied)
I am doing prison officer because its what ive done for past 6 years and i doubt there will be anyone else out there doing it. My approach was to talk about something that i know from experience most people will find interesting. I always get asked "so do they really have tv's and playstations?" hehe so i know alot of people think its like the old tv show porridge aswell. But i thought why only talk about a prison officer but go on to speak of the qualities needed and the ones i have gained ending with how it would make me into a good choice. Selling myself is always in my job interview technique and so far it has served me well. I can only think of 3 times where i have failed to get the job in the past 12 years and 7 jobs that ive had.
I bet everyone knows of the most used questions in interviews "why do you want to work for us?" and "what makes you right for this job/company?"
Guess I am trying to touch those bases just incase. lol

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
Ooh, good news, got a phone call today inviting me to the assessment day. Bit short notice, now I need to work on a presentation! I think the only USB stick I have to hand is the missus' Hello Kitty one too which may go down well...
Are you in in the morning or the afternoon? I've been invited to the PM one.

Re: Virgin Media Assessment day - Access Field Tech
I am sure the hello kitty usb stick will break the ice hehe. Good news on the invite, I'm in the morning at Bellshill on Monday. Look for me in a Blue new shape Clio . My problem is I have a SD card and SD micro with an adapter but no usb stick so i think it may be wise to purchase one at the weekend.
Told you that there would be something good from it.
I think I would die off if I was given 3 days to sort it out, plus side is you don't have time to dwell on it like I have. Been constantly second guessing myself, but finally have it done now. Going to showcase the skills Ive got without going too forward and telling them they transfer well to the role of the job I've applied for. They are intelligent and I am sure they will know if my skills transfer over to the role.
