driving licence renewal
Advice needed please
Today, I posted my application form and required documents to DVLA in order to renew my old style paper licence, however after posting, I realised that I had forgotten to cut my old paper licence into two parts, as instructed. Does anyone know if DVLA are likely to delay the processing of my new licence due to my error?
Thank you

Re: driving licence renewal
It'll just be a security precaution to stop it falling into the wrong hands by mistake.. It shouldn't delay the replacement. You can though still drive as long as you're not disqualified or renewing your licence after a disqualification.

Re: driving licence renewal
My old paper license is already in about 8 parts.. it's been held together with sellotape for years.
You'd just have to look at it severely and it would auto-destruct.

Re: driving licence renewal
I had to change my paper one when I moved house in 1999 and got one of the early photocard licences. The photocard expires every 10 years, so I had to apply for a new one a couple of years ago. The design had changed somewhat from the original, and as there were very few of the new ones around in 2009 everyone who ever needed to see it for ID for whatever reason would always do a double-take, as if they suddenly thought it might be a poor fake.

Re: driving licence renewal
When I took Osem Jnr for his passport interview the official who saw us asked for proof of my identity before commencing the interview. I showed him my old paper driving licence and he didn't know what it was. Didn't realise I was that old.....

Re: driving licence renewal
I used to have one of the old red booklet ones, the same colour as a passport is now.
I am that old!

Mine really confuses some young penpushers. Half of it's in Welsh and that really does add to the puzzle.

Re: driving licence renewal
I had to get a new style photo licence after accidentally laundering the old paper one and so comprehensivly mushing it that I couldn't even read the licence number. I was able to do the whole thing on-line including them being able to get my photo and signature from the passport people. Got the new one through in three days.
They did ask me to send the old paper one in if I found it but TBH I didn't bother as it was so much confetti.

Re: driving licence renewal
They'll probably send it back to you and ask you to tear it in half and resend it again
I still have the old antique paper licence. if anyone touches it they have to handle it like a museum piece.

I still have a paper European licence, as I refuse to pay every 10 years to update a photo which will cost you even more money,
Likewise I'm not renewing my passport as 75 quid is a joke

AFAIK by 2016ish they are completely phasing out the old paper licenses (and paper counterparts to the photocards) so you may not have the choice should you wish to continue driving
I read it recently though I can't find the link.

Re: driving licence renewal
You can continue to use your paper licence until you are 70 but it should be replaced if damaged or worn.
