Psoriasis and Treatments
Im curious as to who on here has Psoriasis and what treatments are they currently using?
I have suffered with Psoriasis now for 23 years and im currently using Methotrexate tablets which make me very dizzy and upset my stomach and attend the hospital 4 days a week for Dithronol treatment which is burning the hell out of my skin.
Anyone have any ideas on how to ease the burning of the skin? They tell u that using moisturisers will do it which from experience over the years is total rubbish.
So who does suffer from it and what treatments work well for you?

calomine would not have any effect and depending on how young you where it would be excema ,closely related but treated entirely differently

errr no
the main treatment for psoriasis is dithranol which is a highly caustic cream it dissolves the offending skin and bleaches just about anything it comes into contact with and can be applied only to the patches of skin affected as it would also burn away good skin ,so you can appreciate that anything that can be applied to baby's bum isn't going to cut it

Re: Psoriasis and Treatments
I have psoriasis (it was on my legs, groin, chest & face--very nice, recommend it ) and psoriatic arthritis. 2.5 year history.
Consultant recommended steroids and emolient cream. Didn't use the steriods! Feck that!......and the cream(s), dead sea salt etc. didn't work.
Psoriasis comes from within so any externally applied gunk is pretty much just a panacea. Mainstream medical treatment is pretty nasty. Best mainstream treatment is something recent that blocks the action of tumour necrosing factor alpha but that also knackers the immune system and increases the risk of contracting nasties like TB.
I noticed that if I ate raw ginger that my arthritic symptoms disappeared within 30 seconds so I researched natural anti-inflammatories on medline and found that curcumin is as good as steroids. Curcumin is found in turmeric.
I purchased a masticating juicer and turmeric root and juiced the turmeric.
I freeze the juice in ice cube bags and have about 6 cubes a day (split between morning and evening). In addition, I juice ginger root and have two cubes a day. Tastes like sh*t but it stops the skin lesions and the arthritic symptoms. It's fiddly and messy to produce the juice but well worth the effort. I juice about 6 weeks worth at a time
Since doing this, I have been pretty much symptom free for the last 1.5 years......thats while drinking red wine and coffee and eating tomatoes etc, all those things that you aren't supposed to if you have psoriasis.
Another thing that can help a bit is taichi and/or qigung-done in a way that you feel the chi flow (otherwise its just moving for no real reason).
Btw............stress can exacerbate the skin condition.
(pm me if you want some more info but I won't be replying for 2 weeks as we are off to disney/florida till the end of the month )

He is the most laid-back creature on the planet but has a lot on his plate.

Re: Psoriasis and Treatments
I cannot stress enough how the turmeric/ginger juice has helped, with no side effects.

Stress is a main feature yes i suffer from Post Traumatic Stress to.
As for Diet, that has no scientific basis or affect with Psoriasis and i have been told that by 4 different doctors including 2 different Dermatologists. The Only intake which will have a major affect on Psoriasis is Alcohol it will have a major affect and flare it up.

doctors mostly know diddly about psoriatic beyond what it looks like when it's fully developed and that it can be treated with steroids. ditto for most Dermamtologists.
I have first hand experiences of that.......
