Number plate on car

My car is from Northern Ireland and therefore has a NI number plate.

How easy would it be to get it changed to mainland UK one?
Mine should be a Y reg or 01. I cant remember exact manufacture date.

Cheers

Re: Number plate on car

Any reason why you'd want it changed???

Anyway cars from the NI are covered by our own plate rules so you should be able to just get a vanity plate or transfer one from another car if you so wish as long as it's not a Q or NIQ plate

Section 10 of this PDF covers it

No mention of cost, can't imagine it would be that much though.

Is there any specific reason you can't just leave the NI plates on it?

Re: Number plate on car

All I did when I brought my car from Belgium was have it checked for EU conformity, change over the headlights, MOT test and then DVLA for a registration form. The local office is gone now, so I suspect you have to do it by post/online now.

NI plates should be legal here AFAIK, as they are part of the Uited Kingdom?

Vehicles moving between GB and Northern Ireland (NI)

Vehicles registered in NI that move to GB are no longer classed as being imported to GB. Also, vehicles registered in GB moving to NI are no longer classed as being imported to NI.

These vehicles can keep their GB or NI plates and tax disc, or they can request the registration plate to where they are going, GB or NI.

The vehicle registration certificate Northern Ireland (V5CNI) should be used to aid registration in GB and applications should be made at a DVLA local office. The vehicle registration certificate (V5C) should be used to help registration in NI. Applications should be made at The Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA), Coleraine.
