Hovis bread contamination
Today I purchased a Hovis loaf and when I started eating it, a cold burning sensation round my lips occured and then the smell of nail varnish remover/purple metholated spirits overwhelmed me.
I rang the customer service line and apparently it is not the only complaint about this problem, so if you experience this, DO NOT EAT it keep the loaf until you make the complaint because they will need to take some details.
I'm getting a written explanation for why it occured and a refund.
After complaining, you are advised to throw it away although if i'm sick, I'm gonna retain it just incase because i've actually eaten a small quantity of it.
It's probably an accident in a warehouse somewhere.
Has anyone experienced this?

Re: Hovis bread contamination
You really need to complain to trading standards.. Something like this gets swept under the carpet by large companies where trading standards will make sure that it's fully investigated with measures implemented so it shouldn't happen again.

Re: Hovis bread contamination
Ok thankyou, just to let you know they said other people have complained as well, only problem is, why won't they tell me what it is! Why do I have to wait for a letter! I wanna know what i've eaten!

Re: Hovis bread contamination
As I said trading standards will make the company act a lot faster.. All you'll have to do is fill in a form (they'll take you through it) and they'll take the sample away to investigate it..
Food contamination is very serious whether it be dangerous to the consumer or not as it simply should not happen..

It's possible that they don't yet know what it is, or an investigation is currently under way, so may not have the information yet

Re: Hovis bread contamination
They said a letter with a full explanation is on its way, and i'm sure i've smelt this before once quite a few years ago but thought I was going mad and ignored it. But this time it is quite strong.

Re: Hovis bread contamination
They've infiltrated the food chain already!
Don't discard the evidence as advised.

Re: Hovis bread contamination
Well i've passed the details onto the council's relevent department who will get in touch soon, that shop should take the products off, after refusing I had no choice but to report them too, funny enough I found out of date products on the shelves.

Re: Hovis bread contamination
i stopped buying Hovis a long time ago when i was living at my old flat and ive been here almost 3 years.
I always found Hovis used to tend to go Mouldy within 3 days where as if i buy Braces or Marks and Spencer it will last for 5 days and the price difference here is around 10p.
