Ways to stay calm, relax

Does anyone know good things to de-stress.
Maybe some kind of herbal teas, or I heard taking paracetamol helps.

I'm stressing out right now!

I need to calm down and not be worrying.

What are your tips?

Re: Ways to stay calm, relax

Is it a temporary thing or has the stress been around for a while?

I have found this organisation particularly helpful:
http://www.mind.org.uk/help/medical_...hooters_stress

Perfumed, candlelit baths and soothing dolphin-call tapes never worked for me.
A simple walk can work wonders.

Or you could just chat to us lot

Re: Ways to stay calm, relax

Thanks,

Its just this week. I'm worried about messing something up and always over think things.
I need to stop over thinking situations and just relax more and go with the flow.

Try controlled breathing - there is a few other techniques in that link.

Re: Ways to stay calm, relax

Dim, quite room and the controlled breathing works best for me if I'm really stressed.

If it's more of an annoyance thing or worrying then a good book or a quick game on the xbox helps take my mind off what ever problem it is.

I can get in the same situation , re-thinking the same thing over and over. Anything to break the cycle and concentrate on something else helps, but it can be really difficult.

Hope you get everything sorted out

Re: Ways to stay calm, relax

You can get relaxation CDs. (whale song, Rain & Thunder)

I have relieved stress (or when I'm wound up) by playing COD, GTA and run around with a gun/car and let rip, but that me.

I have certificates and diplomas in that
Get the thoughts onto paper, and prioritise, and then tick them of your list when they've been accomplished.

What are your tips?

Theres Some Stuff Called Kava Kava, Its Supposed to Be Relaxing But I'm No Expert On Them.

Cammomile Tea Is Also Supposed To Help, It's An Aquired Taste.

Warm Milk Has A Natural Calming Effect, Theres A Chemical In The Milk When Warmed That Relaxes You.

Avoid Alcohol, Caffine, and Nicotine

When I'm Anxious, and as many of you Know I Am, I tend to Use Distraction Techniques.

---------- Post added at 14:35 ---------- Previous post was at 13:33 ----------

Oh theres also Oils you can Use, You add them To lightbulbs and they give off a scent in the room, they can be effective but i cant remember which ones are relaxing.

Try google for them.

Re: Ways to stay calm, relax

Exercise is extremely good for clearing your mind. I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and started eating healthily, so far i've bought home gym equipment, workout guide (P90X), a mountain bike. Whenever i get stressed and really, really want a cigarette i'll go and workout, by the time i'm finished, i'm so knackered i forgot why i was stressed in the first place

Stay away from kids... that works for me... especially if I'm taking Citalopram.

I've just been on a short walk to clear my head and am now sipping some camomile tea. I think it is helping.

Ive got that growing on my allotment, and ive tried it myself. As I said its an aquired taste, but it does seem to work.

Definately cut out caffine, sugar, nicotine and alcohol though, these i have found to only make me worse, and well documented for anyone with stress or anxiety.

Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Ways to stay calm, relax

I'd say to the op get to the root cause of what's stressing you out in the first place is more important and get it sorted (if you can).

The more you worry about something the worse it get's, so if you can't sort it, try to put it too the back of your mind and if it's beyond your control stressing won't help one bit.

Stress is a funny old thing, we've all been there at times and I used to get very stressed about work related stuff to the point it was making me ill. Then one day I just developed the attitude of "Sod it", god gave me one pair of hands and I can only do so much at once.

Since then work related stress get's left at the gate on the way home and picked up again on the way in in the morning.

Nobody understands how you are wired better than yourself so try and look within and find your own way of dealing with it.

I find having a fag after sex works pretty good for me, that's whether the wifes up for it or not .

I'm not trying to take anything away from the op, but have you tried talking about it, not on an open forum granted but to some family member or friend even.

Re: Ways to stay calm, relax

Breathing, find the cause of your stress and try to cut back at it, try to free your mind. you could try meditation.

Have a look to see if your stress is caused by anxiety or the likes, if so you could go to the doctors and have a beta blocker (propranolol e.t.c) or even a low level anti depressant (ssri)
Not sure how much use that is to you but I have a over-sensitivity to adrenaline which causes my pulse to go insane when i get stressed and i've managed to control it pretty well by the above, I've had 24 hr e.c.g (heart monitor) scans and my pulse averaged at 175, its somewhere about 80 now so..

---------- Post added at 16:19 ---------- Previous post was at 16:18 ----------

Also running is good, run using every bit of energy you can summon until you hit the 'wall' you'll usually feel better for it
