Surely it's meant to be a symbol of the resurrection not the crucifixion?

Re: Happy Easter everyone!
I think it was because they gave out eggs at the event. like at Xmas the 3 kings gave presents.

Don't know about that one - but you mentioned eggs to start with not rabbits. And eggs make perfect sense to symbolise the resurrection to me.

Re: Happy Easter everyone!
I think the rabbits might be because there were a lot of them running around on the hills.

It's all to do with fertility and rebirth ,eggs have been used for 1'000's of years as a sign of rebirth and adopted by the christians .Hares and rabbits again are a symbol of fertility and used at this time of year by many cultures to symbolise the rebirth of the earth during spring time

The easter bunny is a later addition.
Eggs are meant to symbolise rebirth.
As for the bunny - I don't get that one myself.
edit - OOOhhh - I just found this....
"Easter eggs for the visually-impaired
Beeping Easter eggs are Easter eggs that emit various clicks and noises so that the visually-impaired children can easily hunt for Easter eggs.
Some beeping Easter eggs make a single, high-pitched sound, while other types of beeping Easter eggs play a melody.
Since 2008, the International Association of Bomb Investigators and Technicians (IABTI) have sponsored a nationwide charity campaign in the U.S., building beeping easter eggs every year for visually impaired children."
I want one

You learn something new everyday, Thanks Martyh.
Still think beer is a good idea, I dont eat alot of chocolate, especially not chocolate and beer together.

speaking of rebirth, isnt a butterfly a better symbol?
