Tried to take out 4 cars for test drives. Only 3 of them were duds!
First we went to look at a 57 plate Mitsubishi colt 1.5d something or another. Pulled up at the lights on the test drive and copious amounts of smoke started billowing out of the exhaust it was like a white [grey] out you couldn't see the car behind us. Car #1 bit the dust.
Next came a 57 Ford Fiesta 1.4 zetec 3dr durashift with 8k on the clock. Guy had to jump it to get it started, drove it out of the showroom and round the side for us to pile in. Passenger seat would not tilt forward (small problem) then my wife gets behind the wheel selects 1st, releases handbrake, depresses throttle, engine revs up but no drive although the dash selector states 1st, tries reverse same she spent 5 minutes trying to get the git to go forwards, backwards, hell just for it to move would have been a nice change. But NO! it was not playing so off we went back inside and sat down, the guy came in and said "its working now" so I said that not under any circumstances would we entertain purchasing the car. That was the death of #2 and off he trots to get #3...
A 57 Ford Fiesta 1.4 zetec 5dr durashift with 19k on the clock, this was a really nice looking car with tinted rear windows, parking sensors and all mod cons. The test drive went really well, my wife loved it, in fact she was ready to sign on the line when I pulled the oil filler cap off only to find a load of emulsified oil. That put a downer on the proceedings, after I said "NO" again and wiped away the tears of laughter due to another DUFF car and they tried to claim that the water ingress was from a jet wash & not fluid from the cooling system this is the demise of #3.
So we had them drag a car from Castle Donington which was another 57 Ford Fiesta 1.4 zetec 3dr durashift with 5k on the clock which we brought.
Today was very entertaining and very long but in the end fruitful.
I must say though the staff are very polite and happy to accommodate our every car need.
