Tampering with Royal Mail ?
I sent 2 applications for a proof-of-age ID card in the same envelope to Citizencard Limited, 36 Bromwells Rd, London SW4 0BG on 25th September in a well-sealed envelope.
About a week later one of the forms (in the name of my daughter) was returned to me as "found open in the mail". The other form (2 A4 sheets plus 2 photos) for my son had vanished. One of the forms was a countersigned copy of his birth certificate.
I subsequently resent my daughter's application, and this has arrived and been processed by Citizencard.
My son's application includes my credit card information, and well as his personal information, so Identity Theft is a possibility. As the original envelope was well-sealed I suspect theft within the Post Office.
I eventually found a page on the Royal Mail website that allowed me to report the matter, but do you think I should also report the matter to the police and my credit card supplier?

If you believe your card details have been compromised then you probably have an obligation under the terms of that card's agreement to inform your issuer ASAP.

Re: Tampering with Royal Mail ?
Envelopes are not that robust and especially those classified as large can open even if well sealed.. Personally I don't think that it's been opened by a royal mail employee as the amount of security against mail theft tends to catch this happening.. The only sheets that tend to get returned are ones with an adress on them and only then if they are intact

Re: Tampering with Royal Mail ?
Just got off the phone to them... they say that only one transaction has gone though to Citizencard, but will put an alert on my account for anything fishy, plus issue me with a new card with different security number.

It was a stiff DL envelope sealed with sellotape around all edges and flap. Both sets of documents had our home address on them.

Re: Tampering with Royal Mail ?
Sorry to say I still think you're looking for a dubious explanation when it could very simply be an accidental opening (such as tear)
The mail isn't handled gently and accidents do happen.. As for both docuents having your home address one could have been torn in whatever process opened up the envelope..
The CC change I suppose settles your own mind.. Do you get a tin foil hat with the new card

sorry to hear that ,surely being handicapped won't stop you getting a provisional for your twins to be used as ID only

Re: Tampering with Royal Mail ?
I contacted DVLA and was told that they would be denied a licence if their conditions affected their driving. So I asked how I could tell if their driving would be affected if they couldn't get a provisional licence to try driving?
Was told that was the rule... full stop.
And £50 for a provisional licence is a rip-off anyway... and am I right that it would only be valid for year?

yep i thought the provisional cost was a bit steep but i thought paying £12 for a ID card that isn't accepted by most places as a bigger rip off .The problem with the citizen card is it is too easily faked .Watch dog did a program on the problems young people have with it

£12 a card (£24 for urgent requests)
|
Now it's £15 (£30 for urgent requests) apparently because the National ID Card scheme has been pulled... they now have a near monopoly and are milking it...

Re: Tampering with Royal Mail ?
Bit late now, but whenever sending anything sensitive I always use Special Delivery. Guaranteed to arrive the next day, compensation if it's lost or damaged, & should be much less likely to be tampered with or lost than normal 1st/2nd Class post.

10 years. At least it was when I got mine in 2002. Two years left on it, & I still haven't had any lessons.
