Do you ever think where your Sunday lunch came from?
I wonder how many of you who had pork for their Sunday roast, ever considered what the pig went through to get your plate.

And yet the meat industry still refuse to install CCTV in abattoirs.

What a nasty, sadistic piece of excrement that guy who tortured the animals with the tongs was, indeed what a bunch of sadists they all were.
It would be wonderful to see that guy with the tongs being 'inappropriately stunned' for a while, and the other sadistic bullyboys treated with similar disdain to the animals.

And people complain about halal meat
There's normally three type of people who work in an abbatoir.. Those who see it as a career and will do it properly, those that see it as a temp job and fumble their way through and finally the sick you know whats who see it as fun

Re: Do you ever think where your Sunday lunch came from?
The mind does boggle. You would think the animals would be lead into a box like contraption where the tongs can be applied appropriately. Instead there's this wild west scenario where the tongs are applied willy-nilly to subdue rather than stun the animal

Re: Do you ever think where your Sunday lunch came from?
I think people that mistreat any animal should be locked up. I don't watch programmes like animal hospital as they make me what to though something at the TV.
I bet if we new what really went on in the food processing industry a lot of us would only eat what hey could grow in their own garden.

I'm not sure why feel the need to say 'these days'. I don't think it was ever different.

seen a lot of these at the moment the best way to stop it is to ask if your butcher / store buys from a RSPCA / FREEDOMFOODS approved abbatoir

Re: Do you ever think where your Sunday lunch came from?
There is no easy way to effect animal slaughter, however the principle that the animal should be alive while being bled to death is common across most methods.
The aim of stunning the animal so that it is unconscious, but still alive during the bleeding process is achievable by several methods, including asphyxiation, electric shock & 'captive bolt' guns.
The video clearly shows completely unacceptable practices during the stunning procedure & I, for one, would definitely support the routine use of cctv in abattoirs to enable those bad practices to be prosecuted, where they occur.

I remember a few years ago, one of the students on my degree worked part time in a abbatoir. He said that what he saw put him off meat, and said it probably would me as well.

As you say, there never will be any easy way to kill an animal, but we do need CCTV to montor what people do to the animals before they are killed.
As for putting me off my Sunday Lunch. Well, seeing as how most Sundays, it's just me and the Dog, and even if it isn't, my housemate is vegetarian, I rarely have a full Sunday lunch. More often then not, I have just soup. So I'm OK as long as the guardian doesn't produce videos of Tomatoes being tortured by Heinz.

So aside from Stuart, who of us is going to give up meat? I'm not, and actually I'm fairly ashamed after watching that.
