What does the price of a pint say about a pub?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11484987

Quote:
The price of beer varies considerably across the UK, a survey indicates. What does the cost of a pint tell us about where we drink?
It is the familiar cry of the northerner cast adrift in unfamiliar London licensed premises: "How much did you just say a pint costs?"
Quote:
But a survey by the Good Pub Guide suggests that some of us can count ourselves luckier than others.
The publication asked all 1,165 pubs featured in its 2011 edition how much they charged for their cheapest pint of real ale bitter.
The Great Britain-wide average was £2.80, a 4% rise on 2009. But this covers broad regional disparities, with the cheapest part of the country, the West Midlands, falling well short at £2.45 below the most expensive, Surrey, at £3.08.
Quite an interesting read..

There are a few pubs in Glasgow's Merchant City that charge £4.50 for a pint!

Re: What does the price of a pint say about a pub?

My local charges £2.45 for a brand beginning with "F" and ending in "osters" (are you allowed to mention brands?), up 40p in just 9 months - part of the reason I have decided not to drink anymore. My orange juice costs me 90p
I used to think that cheap beer = rubbish pub, but I don't feel this is the case anymore I think it depends on the owner/franchise/brewery etc and far they think they can rip people off before they say enough is enough.

Try edinburgh..i don't drink much these days..but when i do go out to meet my mate for a pint..it's £3.40..and that is cheap (guildford arms)

thank god it doesn't take much to get me drunk (that last line is for any hot women who are looking for a cheap date, noting that the cold women can get the leftovers after I'm drunk )

Re: What does the price of a pint say about a pub?

My "reassuringly expensive" pint has just gone up to £3.05. That's at the local pub that is part of a carvery chain. OK when it's quiet but at meal times it's full of squealing brats with their chavvy parent(s).

In the Castle Inn in St Ives it was £3.50! but at least you get atmosphere there with low ceiling beams and flagstone floor. If I was just after cheap drink then it's hey ho to Weatherspoon's in the town.
