So what's up with Verified by visa?

Every time I do some online shopping or try to pay my CC statement online I find I have to use the Verified By Visa service or my payment is not accepted.

The problem is, every time I use it, it will not accept my password and I either have to reset it or phone my Bank's outsourced CS to wrestle the Language barrier while answering a myriad of security questions in order to get them to reset it.

Whichever method I use the end result is the same in that the next time I use it, it will not accept the password.

Really annoying.

I used to pay via my Banks site until they sent me a PINsentry machine. I found that to be hit and miss as to whether the code was accepted. Because of this I started to use the mybarclaycard site only to run into this Verified by Visa fiasco.

Online Retailers do their best to provide a good service only to have Banks and certain Carriers turn it into a harrowing experience for the hapless punter.

Personally I've never had an issue with the Verified by Visa thing itself - there have been a few hiccups with the way sites do it though.

I kow how the OP feels..but I know have set up a different password for each card which I save in Word and keep on a special USB storage flash drive and only use it when I need to verify one of my cards.Seems to work so far.

Given the number of issues you seem to be having with this and CF I suggest you check your browser, and scan your pc for viruses and trojans.

Funnily enough, I had a problem with VbV myself this evening. I was trying to buy a replacement handset for our home phone and Mum's Visa Debit (HSBC) kept being rejected even though VbV was accepting the password. I was able to make the transaction using my Santander Visa Debit card though, also going through VbV.

Been having so many issues with Firefox I installed Slimbrowser again and made it my default browser.

As I have already stated in another thread, CF now flies again.

An added bonus I just noticed while paying my CC was Verified By Visa worked flawlessly. Seems it's been a FF problem all along?

Strangely I would have thought this would have cropped up so often as to be well known? Still I'm just glad to have sorted it.

never used to have a problem using VBV with ff, but has recently been playing up - really noticed it after no script, but didn't change when i took it off. so i now have to use IE to use VBV - funny that.

I had a problem last week - the system wouldn't accept my date of birth! The very nice lady in the call centre couldn't explain it either.

When it comes to browsers it seems one size doesn't fit all.

I really liked FF but for most things I'm finding Slimbrowser to be faster and less hassle.

I'll still keep FF on the system as it works better at some sites.

I have just installed Opera to try out.

I suggest you use something like Keepass instead, if you happen to get infected, once the usb key is decrypted, if it is encrypted, an intruder could easily download the file(s) onto his own computer. At least with Keepass all (s)he'd get is an encrypted container with no way of accessing the contents. It also helps to keep multiple forgettable passwords in one place as well as having an auto-type utility which helps to protect against key-logging..and it's free.
