Fertilized chicken eggs
Hi all, I am a keen chicken keeper and one of my chickens (the light sussex) has become broody. I placed some fertilized eggs under her on the nest 21 days ago and they were all white at the time. Question is do they change colour as they prepare to hatch?

Re: Fertilized chicken eggs
Eggshell color is purely genetic and nothing to do with the fetility of the egg

Re: Fertilized chicken eggs
I never noticed any changes prior to hatching when my daughter had hens.
I think they might look darker when held to bright light as the foetus develops but I never saw any change to the shell colour.

Re: Fertilized chicken eggs
No it wouldn't , but if it is a female, Im hoping it will have white earlobes, because depending on what colour earlobes a chicken has, depends on what colour eggs she lays

Yes you would have the neighbours far and wide offering to wring its neck.
How many more eggs to hatch.

So just 2 more, if they are all female you should get a steady stream of eggs.

Re: Fertilized chicken eggs
Weird how egg color is a national preference...
In the UK we prefer brown eggs, where in the US they prefer white eggs.. where in actual facy they taste just the same
