Chickens

Hi All,

Just about to get some chickens for my coop, but I want to somehow protect the coop from foxes that might dig under the exterior wall of the coop.

Is there anything out there that you can buy to stop this, or do you think that putting some small flagstones around the coop will work? Im not actually thinking along flagstones yet, more of just layering some cement around the coop 6 inches wide.

Would love some suggestions though as these will be my 1st Hens and I dont want a fox to trot off with them.

Our neighbour uses an electric fence. That seems to stop the foxes getting close enough to do any digging.

An electric fence wouldn't be practical in our garden though

Foxes can climb fences of many types, but they prefer to go under. A local dug a 2 foot trench and set plastic-coated chainlink fencing into concrete, with the chainlink rising up 2 feet above ground level. Then additional fencing once the trench was backfilled.

Chickens still OK.

It's very simple realy .The best way to do this is at the same time as the coop is being built but can be retro fitted just takes a bit more work.you can lay chicken wire accross the floor area then cover that with 2-3 inches of dirt then build the coop on top .Doesn't have to be chicken wire you could use any kind of matting as long as it lets water through
