Alex Higgins passes away

Alex Higgins has finally passed away aged 61.

A legend in the game and although he had his problems, was a thorough gentleman.

A legend who I had the good fortune to meet in 1980. Great entertainer and very witty. He did seem to have a large entourage of hangers on though back then. I bet not too many of them were there for him towards the end.

Yup, Hurricane probably did more for the game of Snooker than he is given credit for. I'm not taking anything away from the ability of the the Davis', Thorburns, Taylors etc but it was, and is, a bit like watching chess compared to a game where the Hurricane of Whirlwind were involved.

Taking into account his, erm, unorthadox cueing style, it's really remarkable that he was not only a professional snooker player but that he won the World Championship X 2.

If I remember correctly he was the first pro to clear the table with an extra red. He had a free ball from his opponents break and his opponent didn't get back to the table. I think his final total was less than 147 because he'd taken blues and pinks as colours but it could concievably been a 155 break
