Actually I found one of my ancestors(possibly) was transported for stealing a bale of hay in 1827

Heh took me a second to get that Maggy
I cant believe they would make a big deal about Hay but i reckon HAY was quite expensive and a regular item back then. (As someone stealing a car today would be)

Having seen what people were transported for I can believe they would make a big deal of it regardless of value, perhaps people should remember that before they come out with crap like 'if prison was harder people wouldn't break the law'.
Seems I might be related to a highway man and some one who pinched a watch...

Mine are mainly thiefs. Although there was one lady who was an accessory to murder (but was acquitted!)
There are about 5/6 prolific thiefs listed. One of them was transported, one got a branding, and one got a whipping. The rest were acquitted of any wrong doing.

indicted for stealing, on the 30th of December , 6 cheeses, value 5l., and 2 sacks, value 2s
transported for 7 years
