Massive fat mounds removed from London's sewers
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-10638280
Thames Water says it has removed enough fat to fill nine double decker buses from London's sewers.
That is really gross..and if you have a delicate stomach don't look.

Are they going to recycle it back to the chippies and kebab shops?

This is why they should crack down on the fast food joints, the ammount of fat hitting the drains is ridiculous.

A few years ago they actually closed down a chippy here in Lincoln after the guy had been warned a few times about tipping his used fat down the drain. It caused huge problems for other homes and businesses nearby with blockages and blowback.

Re: Massive fat mounds removed from London's sewers
We always put any excess fats into a old coffee jar and when it is full we dispose of it in the refuse.

Our local Booker 'Cash & Carry' now collects used oils. Apparently they can be recycled into biofuel.

Think about it another way. The fat is doing the same to your arteries and veins.
Just a thought.
However it is a massive problem. There's somewhere in Huddersfield where they have to jet wash the sewars every month.

True, with the exception of veins which don't have plaque, which is why we have HDL cholesterol to jet wash them for us
Thanks to my father's cardiac issues I regularly nosh this, this and this

I don't think it would be worth the hassle to be honest. It takes us about a month to fill a coffee jar. We don't use a lot of fats in our cooking.

Being a diabetic my LDL count is naturally high. I eat lots of soluble fibre; porridge is excellent for this. As a vegetarian, I eat very little saturated fats, which is mainly the fats you find in meats. At my last check my LDL count was two point two and a total cholesterol count of three point nine.

That's the last time I'm travelling on a London bus. You never know what they've been used for.
