JSA & going on holiday.
I'm on JSA, and in 2 weeks going on a 2 week UK holiday.
Now this week I have to hand in the holiday form, they wanted the Name, address & tel of my camp, a home contact number.
I will not give out my sister number, as it is not mine to give, but I have put both my mobile & home phone numbers, as my home phone has an answerphone which we can check.
I also had to declare that I was willing and able to come on immediatley if they call about a job. (Even by saying yes they can question my truthness)
This is my question.
Has anybody here on JSA been called while on holiday, and if I get a call who pays my train fare? As I'm not taking my car and to get home would cost £50+ on the 3 trains.

Many years ago the same thing happened, and I never got any calls but that was under different times.

Re: JSA & going on holiday.
Why didn't you tell them you wanted to go abroad to look for a job instead, they may even pay your fare.
They wont get you on your mobile cos you don't take it with you, too expensive. They wont get you on your home phone either. I doubt very much they will phone your camp, its not as if you will be waiting for the call, is it.
Edit: Sorry, misread the UK holiday. Same answer though, you can look for work anywhere.

I don't even know were the Job centre is in my holiday town.
I am taking my laptop and I can connect my mobile to it so I can check my emails.
What does annoy me though, even though I'm out of work I cannot have a real holiday. I've been looking for a job since April 2009, and I left in Dec 2009. So With my money running out I'm stressed and need a holiday to recharge my batteries.
FYI I'm not paying for this holiday, its being paid by my family.

Bad advice - they wouldn't pay it. The jobcentre will only pay the cheapest form of travel to a confirmed interview. Also it has to be to a potential employer and not to an agency. They also pay in arreas, as soon as they confirm you attended.

I agree. Looking for work/ applying for jobs can be just as stressful as working.

No, but they only cost a few pounds. My Mrs is on a course at evening classes and she gets it for £120 due to being a UK based student, but if she were on benefits, she'd only have to pay £10 I think. Full price is £240.

Over the years I have spent £10,000+ on training.
But now I'm thinking was it actually worth it. As I was on a £25,000+ salary and the JSA show me jobs miles away for £12,000 a year. My saving grace is that they haven't signed me up to take minimum wage jobs.
I can't even get a job as a shelf stacker as I'm to qualified.
But back to the original question, has anybody here had the JSA call them while on holiday?

I'd say that it's very unlikely that they would call you, and it's just a formality to say there's a possibility that they would or could.
if they do call you then I'd say they were being very spiteful, as they will obviously know that you're on holiday before they call.

That's exactly what I think, just a formality / procedure more than anything. How many calls have you had so far from them?

None, other than the pre-aranged job search calls.
I know I'm proberly worrying about nothing, but it might be hard to relax/enjoy yourself, when you are thinking at the back of your mind you will get a call.

Basic skills up to level 2 literacy and numeracy are free to most benefit claimants after 13 weeks.
Well they are at the moment, who knows what this coalition government is going to do
