A problem with cats.
We have two patches in our garden that we are returning back to soil so we can grow some fruit & veg.
Now it has become cat crap central , thank god for wellies.
What can I do to stop them crapping, and the bird eating the shoots.
We tried some string with foil, but that appears to be as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Re: A problem with cats.
I don't know how effective it is but I have heard putting holly on the ground deters cats.
Or put netting over the ground which should deter cats and birds

Re: A problem with cats.
A .22 air rifle normally does the trick ,
on a more serious note, I wonder if a dog figurine might work as a deterrent
Or if all else fails build a thin wooden frame and cover it with plastic sheeting, which will help to keep the heat in much like a green house

Re: A problem with cats.
Citrus Fruit peel is supposed to deter them, also there is a spray but I'm not sure if it's safe around food or not, also you can get animal deterrents which emit a high pitched noise above human hearing which is meant to drive them away.
Weird question, but are the cats burying the poo or are they leaving it on top?

Re: A problem with cats.
For some reason if they can they will bury it, and you find it when you make holes in the soil.
My god does it stink, so much so I and can still smell it.

You hook a hose up to it, and it's got a motion detector which activates the water supply whenever a reasonably sized animal comes near it.

Re: A problem with cats.
Cat central here, until someone started poisoning them. I have tried many deterrents including lion poo, commercial sprays and pellets, mirrors, tapes, pepper... all to no avail.
So when the ground is freshly dug (they like a fine tilth just like seeds) I put short legths of stick and bamboo in at 30 degs to the ground... like mini tank traps... you have to clear out all the poo first or that acts like an attractant...
An agressive cat of your own works too!
As does a local gang of magpies!

Re: A problem with cats.
2 Tips, both cost nothing to try.
1/ Get a empty 2 litre plastic pop bottle.Take the paper off and half fill with water. Lay it on its side in the garden. Cats dont like the weird reflection that bounces back.
2/ Get several pieces of old hose pipe and curl them into a snake shape.
Any of those two will work.

OK this may seem weird to you but this is why they are clean animals, at least they aren't leaving it on top to smell but I do feel sorry for you

Re: A problem with cats.
I had considered some type of landmine in the soil, but I would know where to go

Re: A problem with cats.
We have a similar problem with moggie crap.
Over the weekend got a Ultasonic Cat repeller, makes a hissing sound if anything is detected within 12 metres. B&Q supplied item

Funnily enough I'd considered Theatrical maroons or microdets (electrically fired) as a possible deterrant as a mate has a supply left over from when he ran a stage lighting and effects business. They make a lot of noise but no blast. Mind you it might have the opposite effect as in scaring the crap out of them
