Which Oil for my Car?

Anybody know what oil I should put in my car?

It's an '02 plate Citreon Xsara SX 2.0HDi 110.

Apparently I should be able to look it up here but the site doesn't work on the iPhone

Ta muchly

Re: Which Oil for my Car?

Ok, thanks

It seems to suggest I need 5W-40 or 10W-40.

How do I know which is best? Does it matter if what I put in is different to what's already there?

Re: Which Oil for my Car?

The 5w and 10w are the figures when the oil will thicken up due to cold weather 'measured in straight weight' and therefore what your engine can pump, 5w can be pumped at a lower temp, so no it don't really make a difference to what's already in it as the rec for your car is the 10w-40, ref: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/products-f...-packs#results

Are you changing it all or just topping it up?

Re: Which Oil for my Car?

Just topping up slightly. Level's a little low.

Re: Which Oil for my Car?

If it's just a smidge then it's not really wise to go for the real good stuff as adding new to old is the same as the effect in a chip pan, it wares down real real quick.

Re: Which Oil for my Car?

If you pop in to Halford they have a book were you see hat car you have and it tells you the grade.

Personally I would use what the manufacturer suggest, even if it costs more.
