Job Hunting
Well I had an interview for a local company on the 15th April, the interview only lasted 40 mins.
Going by previous interviews I don't know how to read it, my previous interviews where 2 hours and 2 1/2 hours respectively.
My lastest seemed rushed on their part, as if they only had 30 mins to interview me, they were pleased that I had example of what I have done (nicely presented) but stopped have way through. I ask when I would find out if I'm successful or not. They said 25th April, and as of yet I've heard SFA, so I can only assume that I was not sucessful.

Why is it when you apply for jobs these days companys don't even tell you that you was unsucessful, surely in the 21st century it would take 5 second to send out a generic e-mail telling you that your crap and not wanted here?

Re: Job Hunting
If you havent heard back by now I would phone them up and ask for atleast an explanation as to where you went wrong. They should give you some constructive advice that will help you in your next application.

Re: Job Hunting
i think it is the height of ignorance on the companies part to not at least phone/write and tell you that you were not successful and why, assuming you weren't ,and i think it's early days yet .Knowing why a job interview was not successful is as important as knowing why it was IMO
good luck in future interviews anyway

I know exactly where you're coming from. I spent 18 months looking for meaningful employment and dealt with a lot of ignorant companies (have a look at my last few blog entries). They'll always come out with the crap about "we had so many applications etc" but it really doesn't take too long to print off and send rejection letters. I applied for loads via email and didn't even get a response for them, that would be even less time-cosuming.
The problem is the current economic climate makes it an employer's market. They can be as ignorant as they want to people they don't want as they know they'll get 100+ applications for each job. Utterly devoid of morals.

Re: Job Hunting
I too know the feeling. Over 12 months I applied for well over 60 jobs, and heard back from just 3 of them. The ignorance is incredible. Even most large companies didn't have the decency to reply. The ones that did (Ladbrokes and ASDA) are known for their good recruitment procedures, but the others obviously aren't. I did finally get a job 2 months ago and loving every minute. The 12 month struggle was hard, I will admit. The key is persistance unfortunately.

Re: Job Hunting
What's ASDA like for applying? I live like 20 minutes walk away from the local one. I'd like to apply there. I applied to Tesco Express a few years ago and didn't get a reply until like a year later which was too late because when I applied I could work full time, and that's the reason they contacted me but I could only work part time. Needless to say they phoned me the day after the interview and informed me that I hadn't been accepted which was a first or maybe second time I'd been informed.
Finding a job is hard when you did terrible in school.

Re: Job Hunting
Just walk in and ask for an application form. Fill it in, and return to the shop or job centre. Be sure to put down your hobbies as they have some sort of thing for it. My Mum was rejected because she has no hobbies, and she has no hobbies because she has no time for them! Stupid really. If you get accepted for an interview, it's a group interview from what I've been told where you do group tasks and get assessed on it.

Re: Job Hunting
I had an agency call me about a possible 6 month contact in Letchworth.
So I have just manage to squeeze my car in for a service (2 weeks early).
So if I don't hear anything from this local job I may have this to fall back onto.
Hopefully it goes full time as its over £25k a year
