Nip speed camera foreign driver

a friend of mine who asked to borrow my van to move some stuff and he is a foreing in this country, and i lend it to him all i know its his name and his address is abroad in africa which he told me he was leaving that was 2 days after he borrowed the van, and the van is insured to be driven by any driver who is at the age of 25 or over and he is in his 30s, a week later i have recived the NIP and when i asked his where about i managed to get his contacts and his phone number back home and i called him to let him know what has happened, he has informed me he dont remember going through that road, and i cant say whether he is telling the truth or not but i know and am 100% i was no driving that day as i went to visit my mother who is not well.so i realy dont know what to do i have his address in africa and his full name and telephone number, and the camera i went to have a look it took the picture of the rear of the van as its a gatso...i doubt it it will prove who was driving but i am sure its him and he is no longer in this country..any suggestions would be appriciated thank you

1 i knew him about 2 weeks i met him in a place where i play footy every day..we played footy twice then he was asking around if any 1 knew ppl who do removals for cheap and i said what he needed removing he said some funiture and wen he told me the day which was the next day and i couldnt as i had to visit my mother as she had suffered heart attack...

1. when i saw him come at football games he used to come with a car he was driving so obviusly any 1 would assume he had insurance and licence and am sure he wont risk coming to that area to play football with uninsured car and no licence as its right next to a police station...

2.i do not know his UK address as all i knw its area (town)

3.it was him driving as he said he never gave the van to any 1 to drive only him but he said he dont remember going thru that road...

4 i knwo that road it has a gatso camera which take camera from the rear.

5.the only details i have its african address as he said if u want u can give the police these details and they can contact me here in africa..

6.my licence is clean no ticket no speeding ever b4..

7.the insurance is for a fleet insurance any driver who is the age of 25 and over can drive the van..

am i missing anything out i think i said everyting clear..so please help but dont confuse thanks again for ur all help all of u

Your responsibility is to give the police his name and address and you should also provide the police a statement that he had your permission to drive and that the van was legally on the road (tax, mot, insurance (with proof of all three)

If you do not give the police his details then you'll be the one with the points/fine

They will check up on this person in Africa to see that he does exist and that he was driving the van at that time (the bit about that he wasn't on that road is between them and him and not for you to argue)

Yep and I should also point out that quite a few people give the "It was my aunt, uncle, brother, friend and they have moved back to India, Africa, Germany, America" response to the NIP.

It does get checked and people find lying about it leaves them in far more trouble than admitting they were driving.

On another note is the insurance for fleet coverage dependant on proof of the driver having a full driving licence? If it does allowing anyone to use your van is leaving you open to charges of causing and permitting your vehicle to be used without insurance and getting the van seized.
