My house is flooded - does anyone know the number for 999?
Okay. So new pump is here. Not the Grundfos we ordered because the bloke we bought it off obviously thinks it's just too much trouble to actually send it to us. So off to DIY shop we trotted after other half reached breaking point over it being so ******* cold. We bought a crap pump, just because that will do for now. Unfortunately, the old pump seems to have been welded onto the pipes and our efforts to unweld mean that there's water everywhere. Not normally a problem. Unless the plank who fitted our very lovely, very expensive new kitchen decided to build a cabinet around (ie in front of) the stop cock...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHH!
I give in.
Does anyone know how to get welded on pumps off??

I'm sorry but my suggestion with plumbing is get an expert in.
It's my very irritating and annoying experience that DIY when it comes to plumbing just does not work.In trying to save money you just end up spending even more.

Yep, couldn't agree more.
I'd have said that the pump will need cutting out after totally draining the system, this may make installation of the new one a bit tricky(especially if it's bodged).
Also a quick read through Part P(Building Regs), suggests that you need someone Part P qualified to wirie the pump up. A heating engineer would typcally have this qualification.
BTW, the stop tap that's been built around(contrary to building regs AFAIK), wouldn't this be for the cold water sytem? The hot water and heating will have it's own method of isolation depending on the type of system you have.

A hammer and a small cold chisel used to nearly always get the job done.

In my experience, pumps are connected to pipework by what are called unions. (Big female nuts) (could be as large as 2inch/50mm across)
To remove turn union anticlockwise with a pair of stillsons.
If nuts tight hit on flat with 2lb hammer to break seal.
Any further probs give us a shout -Heating/plumbing engineer (retired)

You should be able to turn the water off at the hole in the pavement outside the house if all else fails.
System should have been drained down before you started messing about.
"Buy cheap, buy twice" rule definitely applies with this sort of equipment.
Good luck anyway.

Re: My house is flooded - does anyone know the number for 999?
Been so busy lounging around in the warmth that I forgot to thank you all for help. Emergency late night dash to local DIY store and begging on knees in carpark resulted in store being reopened. Bought every bit of brass stuff in sight and returned to sodden partner who, it was plain to see, had been successful in his efforts to get every last drop of water out of the tank. So, pump successfully replaced and house toasty. Now, all that's left to do is figure out what the strange stain is on the living room ceiling. Looks like water...
