Thumbs up For the Diabetics on the forum

Do you want a new way to measure your blood glucose level's and have something that can suggest what you should change in your diet/lifestyle if the readings are too high or too low? Say hello to the Bayer's USB Blood Glucose Monitor. http://www.bayercontourusb.co.uk/home

My mum came across it in the Daily Mail (I Think) this afternoon. Costs £24.99 but I think it would be worth it.

Not for me I'm afraid, I don't test often enough to need to follow trends that closely. I only test a couple of times a week, or if I feel my B/G is too high or too low and even then not all the time. The only times I test outside of that is before I fly (but that's a mandatory thing with civil aviation authority). My HbA1c has floated between six point three and six point nine, over the last ten years or so.

Foods that are high in carbohydrates or straightforward sugar will make ones blood/glucose levels to increase, very few foods have a downward effect on the blood. There are some foods which help the body to absorb glucose in the blood stream, oatmeal (porridge) and many other high fibre foods can help with this. Foods that are high in fats can also reduce the absorption and retention of sugar in the body. The fat molecules encase the glucose and allow it to pass through the body. It is not recommended to rely on this method, as consuming too much fat brings its own set of problems.

Re: For the Diabetics on the forum

My brother was a type one and he ate anything he wanted and had drinnk at well. His bloods often went so crazy that the machine couldn't read his bloods. He only ever once went to a diabetic clinic and they wanted him to go again as his eyes were bad but he told the docs not a hope in hell was he going back and only once did he agree to go to hospital to get his bloods reglated and that was the time they went of the wall. But in saying all that he managed well and he was an expert in knowing how much inslin he needed to either bring the bloods to whatever they needed to be at the time

Re: For the Diabetics on the forum

Thats good as I suppose its better when children are diagnosed when they are very young rather than when they are older and need to get used to the idea

Re: For the Diabetics on the forum

Diabetic clinics hand out free meters of different types every time my wife or daughter go for their checkups... and that usually means a change of prescription for testing strips... an awful waste if you swap every time and have strips left over from the last machine you tried... but very lucrative for the meter manufacturers.

Re: For the Diabetics on the forum

The meter I use, I have had for four years. It has never broken down. Why do they change them everytime they go for their checks?
