I think that the thing to hold on to is the fact that an alternative method of managing this condition has been found and that further development of this method is now bound to follow.
For example. When the implants for hearing loss were first trialled they took a lot longer to implant and the external hardware was a bit like a house brick. In a matter of a couple of decades the implant operation time has been reduced and the external attachment is no larger than a normal behind the ear hearing aid. The latest implants, still under trial don't even have an external aid.
Here's hoping that this implant has the same success, though I do hope the development time is appreciably shorter.
