Best finish for an open beech staircase.
Almost finished sanding down our staircase and am wondering whether I should try a different finish. Previously I've used a clear water based acrylic finish which dries quickly, gives a non-glossy finish and doesn't detract from the beauty of the natural wood. I'm now wondering about using something like linseed oil but am a bit worried about drying times, maintenance, durability and the inevitable smell. Anyone got any thoughts as to this or possible alternatives?
