Car leaking Petrol
Hi all
Driving home from work today was getting a strong smell of petrol. pulled up on my drive and big line of oil stain from where i had driven. :-\
I started the car up and straight away petrol was peeing out from under the car.
However as soon as i stopped the engine it stopped to just a trickle then drops now nothing.
it seems to be coming from what looks like a filter next to the petrol tank.
luckily the garage is only 1mile away so I'll take it tomorrow morning. anyone know anything about this and what price I'll be looking at?

Fuel pump?
Sounds like it's coming out under pressure, so either the line (to the engine) or pump itself.
Price?
How long is a piece of string?
Depends on the car (price of parts needed) and the garage.

Re: Car leaking Petrol
It's the petrol filter. it's a cylinder with two pipes both ends. either one of the pipes has come loose, or the filter's rotten.
have a quick look at it. should be easy enough to see the damage. if it's leaking as bad as it sounds, you'll probably find that one of the pipes will just jump off anyway.
filter is about Ł9, you'll need 2 clips as well. some come with the clips others don't.

Re: Car leaking Petrol
Vauxhalls tend to have the fuel pump and filter on a little plate next to the fuel tank. If it's leaking that badly it's on the output side of the pump and is pumping fuel at about 15psi onto the road. I wouldn't drive it even to the garage, get the RAC or AA to come get it if you are a member.

Re: Car leaking Petrol
Ok, looks like on that the pump is inside the tank, fair enough. The problem is definitely the filter.

Pump is inside the tank on those, apparently.
Never had the misfortune of owning an Astra, but I know that Minis for example had rear fuel pumps (that's going back a few years mind).
Edit: Bah! Foiled again!
Curse you, evil Lord Nikon.
