Rover 600 central locking

The central locking on my 1997 Rover seems to have a mind of its own at times! Not been too bad the last day or so but at times when I lock the car it unlocks immediately, or locks for a few second then unlocks. The locks etc. have been well wd40`d but the issue is still there, any ideas?

Re: Rover 600 central locking

Is it sensing that a door or boot is open (interior light not going off)?

Re: Rover 600 central locking

The Rover central locking system is prone to this problem, it's the switch part of the lock unit on the driver's door 9 times out of 10. The solution is to pop to your local scrapyard, pick up a new motor, this is attached to the door lock assembly by a couple of screws and is easy to fit. What is happening is the wiper switch in the lock is mostly nylon and wears out. It is assuming you wish to unlock as it thinks the key is in the unlock position. one 5 way plug, a couple of screws and it's done. The only downside is you will have to take off the interior door panel..

I assume you have the haynes manual for the vehicle, if not I would advise you to get it as it details exactly the procedure for removing the door panel, getting access to the lock system and changing the motor.

Re: Rover 600 central locking

Sounds like the central locking motor.
The ECU is sensing that one of the motors isn`t working properly.
You just have to find out which door its in.
Also check for a broken wire where the loom comes out of the door and goes into the A post (Front Doors) or B post (Back Doors).

Not likely, the system on the Rover 600 is as follows -
Rear Doors - 2 wire motor system
Front Passenger door - usually 2 wire motor, but some models had the full 5, the additional 3 being for the switch. The way to check is when you put the key in the passenger door and turn it, does it operate just the one door, or all.

The problem is 99% usually the drivers switch / motor module.
