PayPal Question
I am loathe to open a PayPal account due to fraud that my son experienced years ago.
However, I want to make a purchase where PayPal is the only option. From what I understand you don't open a PayPal account but just submit your card details on an online PayPal slip and they forward the monies to the creditor.
Is this a standard procedure, is it safe and is my card safe from being used by PayPal fraudsters.
Thanks.

Re: PayPal Question
As far as I recollect you would have to open a PayPal account first, in order to pay through PayPal. I have used this method of payment several times with no problems. The seller doesn't get to know your card details. I have also had a refund through PayPal when I have returned faulty goods. More info here Hope that helps.

Re: PayPal Question
I've never had any problem with paypal either, but just ensure you're always on an https page when using it,to ensure you haven't been redirected by a phisherman.
Most paypal horror storys come from the US,where if brains were made of dynamite, there wouldn't be enough to blow their 'ats orf.
Having said that,we're running a pretty close 2nd these days.

Looks like at least some sellers can allow payment without an account.

Re: PayPal Question
Fraud is only going to affect you on Paypal if someone is buying from you via Paypal.
If you're just going to buy via Paypal then I can't see much of an opportunity where you will suffer from fraud.
as long as Ebay isn't involved that is

Not true, Phishing sites and also trojans/keyloggers and other security problems have targeted paypal just the same as other online accounts so it's not just buying items where you are at risk
In the end if you have decent security, keep an eye on your statements (online or paper) then you;re protected just as much as you would when you use your card inthe shop and hide your pin or make sure that there isn;t a skimmer attached to an ATM before you use it.
Remember that you are the weakest link in the security chain, not the system

If you have purchased via Paypal whether it is through a phishing site or not, it's going to appear on your statements.

It's like a bank account, there's multiple ways of money going in/out.. Paypal's not been just about ebay purchases/selling for a long, long time
