'squatters' rights'

Thousands of illegal immigrants have been granted "squatters' rights" to remain in Britain permanently after proving they have lived here for 14 years, it can be disclosed.

A little-known rule, introduced by Labour in 2003, allows illegal immigrants to claim "indefinite leave to remain" if they manage to live in Britain's black economy for long enough or are failed asylum seekers who manage to avoid deportation.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...rs-rights.html

Migrationwatch UK now believes the true number of illegal immigrants could be as high as one million.

Re: 'squatters' rights'

well it's hardly a little known law ,i think most people are aware that if illegals manage to evade capture long enough the authorities give up on them and allow them to stay

when cameron gets in one of the first things he should do is repeal this law and deport the lot of them ,including wives and children ,because he is going to have enough problems getting this country back on it's feet without having to support people who have not contributed to a system but is obliged to support them

Even so if they do come forward surely they'd have to prove how they kept themselves alive for 14 years, which if it's not purely begging/relatives/charity then they should be liable to tax evasion prosecution or the relatives guilty of harbouring an illegal immigrant

you'd think so wouldn't you ,but in Browns brave new world if you get away with breaking the law for long enough they will forget about it ,possibly a reward for being clever enough to evade a grossly underfunded under manned department

I don't think you can blame that on just labour or brown, there's been a lot of stupid laws from all goverments throughout the last millenium....

of cause once they've been given "indefinite leave to remain" they are no longer illegal immigrants but simply Legal migrants. dose Migrationwatch's gestimate take this destiction into account?

Articles like this are popping up everyday. It's no wonder there's growing support for the BNP.

So if I exceed a speed limit but then reduce my speed below the limit, I haven't committed a speeding offence?

Don't you believe it Kymmy, this lot would blame Brown if the dog crapped on the carpet, then lionize Cameron for coming up with an anti dog crapping law.

Re: 'squatters' rights'

To be honest, if they've lived in the country for 14 years and have managed to "adapt" to how the system works, then they probably have as much right as some of the dossers who've never worked in their lives to live here.

According to what has just happened to a girl that lives opposite me, I am not sure they are classed as legal immigrants.

This girl came over to talk to my wife last Thursday and it was on our local tv news the following day.

Her mother and father, who are both dead now, moved to Australia a long time ago, while living there they had a daughter, the one I am talking about. Mother and father were british, but I am not sure if the daughter has a british passport, this may be the issue here, anyway, the daughter came to live over here with her mother, after the father died, which is a long time now.

The thing is, she has been on benefits for ages because of her illness, now she decides she wants to get a full time job, she went for an interview for one job, but after a few days, she had a phone call saying they coud not employ her because she is an illegal immigrant. She is taking things further so don't know any more at present.
