Foot Problem
Hi all,
OK - Ms LSainsbury has asked me to post this.
For about 3 /4 weeks she's had a pain in the foot - well the little toe and the one next to, underneath and down the side.
She went to the docs last week and all she said was to take some Nurofen and see how it goes.
It's now starting to swell up slightly and feels "warm".
She's not banged it as far as she knows.
Any ideas what it could be?

Call NHS Direct. Get her to your local out of hours. They are normally pretty good.

Re: Foot Problem
That sounds similar to something that flares up with me now and again, an old undiscovered break in the foot from when i was a child
But NHS Direct is the best advice

Re: Foot Problem
NHS direct is rubbish. All they ever 'advise' is to phone for an ambulance. (everytime I've ever phoned them anyway)

Re: Foot Problem
Has she ever broken those toes at some stage in her life?
Sometimes old breaks can just hurt and swell up for no real reason.
My bust toe from 2 years ago and 2 fingers from over 6 years ago do at times.
Not enough pain to worry about though, some say it is weather related.

Re: Foot Problem
So - we called NHS Direct and the wait time was 2hrs so we decided to call the local out of hours. They wer'nt busy so we went down there.
Not exactly sure whatwas wrong with the foot - it was just the swellling that she was concered about. Doctor gave her some different tablets and see how it goes. Also got a form for an xray on Monday to rull out any stress fracture.

Re: Foot Problem
I've had this very recently..
Tracked it down to the the computer chair I sit on in the evenings, I tend to be barefoot in the house (too used to hot countries) and the chair is a standard 5 foot swivel on castors and I've been sitting a lot with the balls of my feet on two of the legs. That induces pressure sore which manifested themselves as tingling to full pain, redness and a small bit of swelling. Cured it by wearing some slip on shoes whenever I'm sat at the computer and it cured it within a week

Re: Foot Problem
Well a few weeks on and it's still playing her up.
Been to the docs - had a blood test to check for gout - got the all clear, but it's still the same if not a bit worse.
Xray revealed nothing worth investigating.
She's going to back to the doctors tomorrow.

Re: Foot Problem
Has she bought any new shoes around the time of the swelling starting? I presume the XR showed no evidence of a stress #?
