Stone Chip

Hmmmmm, just filling in the obligatory boxes in moneysupermarket for insurance for me new car, me does the new car dance , anyway, claims bit, there is a drop down box and in it it says, windscreen claims, does that include a stone chip repair?

I did ring my current insurer and he wouldn't give me a straight answer, all he wanted to do was sell me cover.

It should cover repair, where possible, and replacement where not.

If you didn't actually put in a claim for the repair (ie. if it was done by one of these 'free' type arrangements) then no I wouldn't have thought you have to declare it. Only where you actually processed a claim through your insurer, and where (protected no claims aside) it would have affected your no claims bonus or policy rates would I think you need to declare it. If in doubt tick the box, then negotiate a lower rate with your chosen supplier if it turns out it's not an issue.

If you mean 'do I need to declare a chip repair' - I suspect they are asking if you have had a full replacement. Most chip repairs do not affect insurance.

I need to know if I have to declare it when shopping around for new insurance.

Try a quote declaring it and a quote not declaring it and see if there are any differences.
If there are none, declare it to be on the safe side!

I would suggest "no" when you are just doing stuff on the comparison sites. Once you have identified the insurer you want to go with, contact them direct to discuss the details of the policy.
