Can't see anything here that says it has to be a 'runner':

Re: car scrappage scheme question
As long as it's MOT'd, Insured and Taxed and owned by you for the last year and at least 10 years old (8 for plg vans) then I don;t think that they're bothered whether they're gonna scrap a runner or not..

Re: car scrappage scheme question
A lot of garages have scrappers on their forecourt saying this is worth £2000 under the scrappage scheme.

Re: car scrappage scheme question
How can they offer that? unless it's registered in the persons name for at least a year it's not valid

It's usually one that somebody brought in on the scrappage thing, and they just stick it out the front.

I think they are just using them as billboards but I think even if the car has been in your garden for 10 years they wil accept it.
I also think some are bending the rules just to get a sale.

Correct, many are bending the rules for a sale.

And the surprise is.
A sale is a sale.

Agreed, bent MOTs in many cases. I heard of one who charges £100 to put an MOT on a car to be used for the scrappage scheme.

Re: car scrappage scheme question
Why would a car need a current MOT if its going to be scrapped?

Re: car scrappage scheme question
They can't do that. The cars have to be certified as scrapped, to get the one thousand pounds. It then shows a marker on the V5c that the car has been disposed of.
