Re: Olu Deniz
we went to hisoranu last year, which was just a short drive away from olu deniz...which is where we spent most of our time. cant honestly say how good the place is for walking, but the lagoon was fantastic..and would highly recommend going there.
we did notice quite a few paths going round the lagoon, which seemed popular though. we did most of our walking around fethiye market

Re: Olu Deniz
Well it's not famous for walking, it's famous for the white pebble beach. Sunbathe, swim or hire a canoe and paddle round the lagoon. I certainly didn't do any walking when I was there.
Plenty to see in Fethiye though, make like 50240 and do your walking round the market there. Or take a short hike up the hillside from Fethiye and have a look at the tombs carved in the cliff face. That'll keep you fit.

If you've not been there before I'd suggest a little research into the hotel/accomodation your interested in.
We didnt realise at the time but Turkey use thier own rating system. ie, the four star all inclusive hotel that we booked, turned out to be more than likely a two star, or at a very tight stretch, a three star... when compared to accomadation at say tenerife as an example. The food was great though

Re: Olu Deniz
We always use trip advisor & we tend to thoroughly check out possible hotels\area's we holiday in.
We have been to Turkey a couple of time's and have no problems with anything there (apart from chavvy brits)

Yes, i've had that problem too. I've found if you stay away from Marmaris its not too bad I do love Bodrum though, something romantic about it

Re: Olu Deniz
We tend to go to Marmaris and chavs tend to flock there which is why were are looking at somewhere a bit quieter, if it wasn't for the chavs we'll be going there again
But I do like Maramris, its great for entertainment lots of bars and restaurants & we love the Turkish people.
A change will suffice tho and next year we'll probably be back at Marmaris.

Maybe I just had a bad week but it was full of chavs, overly expensive and I got robbed by the hotel staff (all my jewellry) on the last night from my suitcase in the room as we were in the bar. And to top it off I slipped and fell down the stairs, breaking my collar bone - never again!

Re: Olu Deniz
That sounds like a very bad week.
Its always advisable to use the safe's that the hotels offer although the charge for the use of can be a little high.
Last time we went some of our larger valuable items wouldn't fit in the safe so I locked them in one of our suitcases which could be an option, unless they nick the case as well (has been known)

We always use the safes, but we were leaving at 3am for the airport so were already packed up to go. The room was left unattended for about 4 hours max and the cheeky bugger went into my case, found the box containing the items, stole them and put the empty box back. If i'd have realised while I was there, i'd have decked the cleaner!
Just something to bear in mind, we noticed money going missing from the safe - really did put me off going to that resort again. Been to Turkey many times and never had these issues

Try Icmeler, next town along from Marmaris. A lot less busy but still the same Turkish hospitality. We loved it and we have friends that have been going there for years.
