HD camcorder for use in a loud studio
Hello all,
I wonder if anyone can help me out with this. I'm looking for a HD Camcorder which is capable of recording good quality audio in a studio environment where the noise is often in excess of 120dB and where you come out after 1 hour with your ears ringing.
My friends have a band and now require some of their work to be recorded for archiving and general fun purposes, so we need the audio quality to be good in this sort of loud environment.
We have a budget of around £150 maximum. It's not a lot but we hope to get something half decent for the money. I would prefer it if it were a camcorder someone has personally used in a similar environment or a loud stadium where there has been a gig etc and can guarantee the quality for me.
Cheers in advance, and a happy new year to all!
Andy

Agreed. It was the first time I have been to the studio 2 weeks ago so I didn't realise it would be so loud. I have a hand full of ear plugs so no worries there. Just have to remember to take them.

The ones I have are industrial ones a friends Dad got from work. He works in an Airbus plant so they won't skimp on them. They work well for drowning out my friends snoring

I've seen a fair number of high def camcorders for under £150, you just have to know where to look, the problem is I don't know if it's suitable for the loud studio work. I don't want to buy one to find it cuts the sound when it's too loud, or over deviates the sound because it can't handle the high decibels.

Re: HD camcorder for use in a loud studio
There are high def ones under £150, but they are memory card ones. I can say with almost certainty, that none of these are going to be suitable, a budget camcorder is not going to have a good audio mic. To get the best, you need a cmera which takes an external mic, and put most of your budget towards that. It's gonna cost you way more than £150 to get something half decent mate.. Quality stuff is worth quality price.

Re: HD camcorder for use in a loud studio
Never said they were good quality, just said you can get them. Here is a selection: http://www.ebuyer.com/search?store=77&cat=52&subcat=838
Even 720p is fine I should add, full HD isn't that necessary as full HD video streaming online isn't that suitable in this day and age.

Re: HD camcorder for use in a loud studio
But you want one to do a specific job wanting good quality audio and originally specifed a low budget
I think you should set yoru sites lower and get a good standard def camcorder with mic port and get a mic to go with it

Re: HD camcorder for use in a loud studio
Perhaps you're right. OK then, any suggestions on a mic for a camcorder then?
Also, does the external mic make a huge difference to the quality of the volume? What I mean is if the built in one over-deviates, is it likely that the external one will as well?
