Sparing a Christmas thought
I dont wanna burst anyones bubble or sound pretentious at all here so please dont take this blog the wrong way guys and gals.
looking around the internet on facebook and so on all i seem to see is how well people have done and what they had for christmas and so on but i was wondering if anyone did spare a thought for those who wernt so lucky, those in care, those in hospital that maybe didnt get a thing from anyone.
I was lucky enough to be able to spare £20 which i give to a local charity for disavantaged kids a few weeks before christmas which apparently would have bought 4 children a present.
Im just wondering if anyone else would want to spare a thought for those no so well off?

My friends brother-in-law was told on Christmas Eve that he has terminal lung cancer, he's 49 with less than six months to live.

Delta sorry to hear that, my gran was taken into Hospital on Christmas eve also with possible stroke or onset of dimensia.
Papa Smurf. Our family has a whip round once a year and donates to Mcmillan Fund + i Play charity pool matches twice a year on Bank Holiday to raise cash for either Guide Dogs for the Blind or the Terrance Higgins fund.

Re: Sparing a Christmas thought
Must admit I didn't do anything special for Christmas but like Papa I do have a couple of regular monthly things. It's quite nice to get the reports on how 'my' guide puppy is getting on with the training.

Re: Sparing a Christmas thought
I confess that I didn't/don't generally do anything especially charitable for Christmas - I have charities that I support throughout the year regardless, and I've continued to support those this year.
I know that Christmas makes the plight of certain people, or groups of people, seem worse but it isn't - the people that need our support suffer all year 'round, get nothing all year 'round, are hurting all year 'round, deserve our support all year 'round.

Re: Sparing a Christmas thought
Christmas is for me to enjoy my time off work, and spend it with my family, so tbh, no, I dont give much thought to people I dont really know. There will always be people worse off than me, and always be those much better off as well. I have no doubt some will call me uncaring etc - so be it.

Re: Sparing a Christmas thought
My sister-in-law works for social services ,her girlfriend is a foster parent who is currently taking care of a 4yr old boy and a 8yr old girl who were taken from their mother a few months ago due to alcohol and drug problems .My sister -in -law decided to bring the children around to ours today to see us for a few hours and give the kids a day out ,so before hand my wife and i had a bit of a clear out of old toys belonging to our 2 boys ,just small things like coloring books crayons an old "my first scalextric" and some toy soldiers and a plastic tank .You can imagine these kids have never had much in there short lives especially compared to what mine have (probably too much)so it was especially nice to see them so happy just to have these small things instead of a drunken mother who's priority was making sure she had enough booze .Even my youngest son ,13yrs played with the boy and gave him some of his toys he doesn't use anymore and that made me very proud of him ,my oldest son 18yrs is one of those emo's black hair and makeup so he decided the girl would look good made as a emo ,what a laff
so at least i know that 2 lovely children have had some kind of normal Christmas this year

Re: Sparing a Christmas thought
sorry I do not give to any charity that professes to be for under-priviledged people, that's what the welfare state is all about..
