Anybody live/lived in/around Swindon
Afternoon All
Anybody know much about Swindon?
What are the good/bad places to live there? I'm not thinking upmarket or posh, just somewhere middle of the road with good access to the city and preferably a bit of life about it.
What's Swindon like generally as a place to live?

Re: Anybody live/lived in/around Swindon
Apparently Swindon is the divorce capital of Europe.
Has plenty of shops & suchlike but lacks identity. The newest housing seems to be in St Andrews area not far from Blunsden and has a huge Asda and other shops. Occasionally go there to shop & my brother used to live there but got divorced.
IIRC Damien lives in the area.

Swindon is a decent place to live. I've been here 7 years and it's decent. Crime rate, is pretty low, the town centre is heaving with decent shops etc. Plus theres the outlet village.
Stear clear, of, place like, PenHill, Pinhurst, Park north & south. Council estates.
Decent places to live, Old Town, Woodhall park, priory vale, Westlea and a variety of places. Depends on budget etc. Priory Vale, is a massive new development, which accross the road, has a huge and I mean huge Asda Walmart.
Bus services, are pretty good. They go all over the town, every 10 minutes and are run by Thamesdown Transport, a local Swindon company. Stagecoach doesnt have the monopoly in Swindon and never will.
Theres also, GreenBridge, again, a huge shopping complex.
I love Swindon. Woulnd't move, if you pay me £1 million quid

The person concerned would be renting, at least initially - any ideas what a 2/3 bed house/apartment would cost to rent in those areas? Ideally something reasonably modern, but doesn't need to be anything too special.

My 2 bed costs £475 a month - in the priory vale area. I was lucky though.
Your probably looking from anything from £475 - £600 a month depending on area, requirements etc. 3 beds, your looking from £600 right up to £900 depending on budget and location

Re: Anybody live/lived in/around Swindon
And they will also get this..
Swindon will become the first town in the UK to offer free Wi-Fi to all its citizens.
Digital technology firm Aqovia has constructed a 'mesh' network covering the entire borough that all residents will be entitled to use for free.
Expected to be complete within the next four months, the scheme is the result of a collaboration between Swindon Council, Aqovia and Rikki Hunt, the man behind the idea.
The Highworth district of Swindon will be the first to benefit, with the signal being switched on in December, with the rest of the town following in the new year.
However, users will be restricted in terms of how much data they can use and if residents want to stream video or download large files they will have to pay. However, it will enable basic web surfing and email for no charge.
The council does, however, expect to make money from the project. Rod Bluh, Swindon Borough Council leader, said: "This is a truly groundbreaking partnership which will have real benefits for everyone living in Swindon.
"Not only will residents in the borough be able to access the internet for free, the Council and its partners will be able to use the technology to provide cutting-edge services to the areas or individuals who need them," he continued
Locals can visit the Get Signal website for more information about how to use the Wi-Fi network.

Overall is Swindon is great. There is plenty of work and jobs going around ina massive variety of Industry.
Swindon, was also the fastest growing town in Europe and is practically a city, minus the cathedral.
Trains are also good, the train to London is direct and takes around 20 minutes.
Anything else you want to know?
