Home Contents insurance Question
I have my Home contents with LLoydsTSB been with them since i got a place of my own almost 5 years ago now.
i was paying £6.74 a month which covered me upto £15,000 on home contents.
i have never made any claims what so ever and was told when i took out the insurance that if i dont claim it should gradually drop now today i recieved a letter stating its due for renewal and my payments are going to be £8.74 a month.
Why would the payments go up when i havnt claimed a penny from them all the time i have ever had my own insurance.

Think of it like car insurance, that goes up too even when you have no claims discount.

Re: Home Contents insurance Question
Inflation? Rises on the cost of everything, my contents insurance is £17 a month includes accidental damage.

Re: Home Contents insurance Question
i doubt inflation would push it up £24 a year more. if thats the case i will be shopping around elsewhere. My mum is with Aviva and hers has dropped by 60p again.

Theft, accident damage claims, inflation, company profits/losses, crime in your area rising all affect the insurance, it's never fixed just like your car insurance or buildings insurance.

Re: Home Contents insurance Question
It could be that there are more risks associated with the area you live in such as it being more likely to be flooded or burglaries have gone up? They have an effect. Like everything else it goes up, think yourself lucky - mine is over £20 a month but it is for 25k I suppose

From previous Tunnock orientated threads, I thought you were from the Uddy area.
You are the Queen of Bothwell Castle and I claim my £5 (p.s. your roof is leaking and wallpaper taste is crap)
Seriously though, I don't know who you're insured with but for G71 postcose I'd be surprised if you could'nt get equivalent cover for less outlay.

Re: Home Contents insurance Question
Shop around. In my experience, high street banks charge silly money for insurance.

Noooooo I'm in Bellshill in a council house and contents cover from Kwik-fit and couldn't really be bothered to shop around and it was less than what Bank of Scotland quoted me.

Re: Home Contents insurance Question
Somebody has to pay for all the legitimate/fraudulent claims, "personal injuries" claims etc etc, legal fees and so on and you can be assured it will not be paid for from the company's profits or bosses' bonuses.

Re: Home Contents insurance Question
It is actually and I know this as my teenagers approved it
And it gets worse I'm Easterhouse born n bred
I've never had contents insurance before but over the last 2 years everything in the house has been bought new, all rooms redecorated, new carpets etc and when I had a think about it, the thought that should there be a fire or I get flooded or burgled, there's no way I could afford to redecorate and replace everything in the house so decided it was time to get me some, I definitely should have shopped around more.
