Hi all

Hope this makes sense............... !!!!

I have 8 apples from my tree last year but year year I only had 3

Re: Formula Maths X-Y

Yep... X - y equals the original 8 minus 3 = a reduction of 5 apples

100/x = 100/8 = 12.5 Which is how many percent of the original group 1 apple represents..

So the reduction of 5 multiplied by the the percentage that one apple represents which is 12.5% = a reduction of 62.5%

(8-5)*(100/8) = 62.5

Re: Formula Maths X-Y

What's this for?

The question is rather strangely worded. The percentage reduction is 5/8= 62.5%

Re: Formula Maths X-Y

It's simplified too much... The brackets are missing on the equation

Yes, but it doesn't make any sense to express it as a linear equation. It should be something like y = 8 - .625x, but x hasn't been defined. It's a poorly worded question.
