Unhappy Visa fraud team doing its job

Tried to buy a couple of pressies from Amazon yesterday and they 'bounced' my Visa.
Phoned up Visa and they said my card is on a list of card numbers that has been hacked/stolen from a retailer, so three weeks before Christmas I've got to wait for a new card
But, fair play, they got there before the fraudsters. Can't tell me who compromised the card as there is an ongoing police investigation.

Nice... hope you get that sorted quick!

Was it a credit or debit card?

Apparently they were only informed of the breach yesterday morning - and one of my phone numbers was out of date.

Re: Visa fraud team doing it's job

I took out sentinal card protection only £20 quid a year and covers you from the moment the cards go missing. One call can cancel them all and then they sort it out with the providers ( allegedly not used it yet touch wood I dont need to)

Re: Visa fraud team doing it's job

It'll have to be the Visa Debit until we get the new card - luckily I have enough in the account to cover it but I'm sure there are others that may get stung by this leak that are not in such a good position.

Re: Visa fraud team doing it's job

Any idea how it happened then? Used the card in some "dodgy" place?

Re: Visa fraud team doing it's job

Definitely no dodgy sites. I have a suspicion based on a thread here a while back, but as Visa are keeping quiet we can only speculate.

Re: Visa fraud team doing it's job

Problem is - it can happen anywhere these days - the local Somerfield store was fingered for chip and PIN fraud last year.

Re: Visa fraud team doing its job

There's been a cash machine fraud round our way this last few weeks, Full Story here. I thought all this stuff was a thing of the past? When I use a cash point I always check the slot to make sure there's nothing been put in there.

Re: Visa fraud team doing its job

Capital one did the same to me... they then told me of all the "fraudulent" transactions and I told them exactly what each was. Think she was a bit put out when she realised my card had been stopped without warning and cancelled before anyone had spoken to me (I called within 5 minutes of being warned about it).
Gotta wait for my card to arrive too now.
