Yep they seem outraged.

The Scottish Whisky Association has welcomed the venture, despite the misgivings of some Scots.
Some of the non-Scotch whiskies are pretty tasty.

Re: English malt whisky

I like a good swig of whiskey late in the evening. 1 or 2 a night, every night.

Re: English malt whiskey

I have modified the thread title, as technically only Scotch is spelled 'whisky'. If it comes from anywhere else, it's 'whiskey', in recognition of the fact that it's not quite the same.

Around here, it's L-A-G-E-R. Or, if you're picky, T-E-N-N-E-N-T-S.

i wonder if there may be a legal challenge in the pipeline cos it says whisky on the bottle ,i know champagne /Stilton/Melton mobray pork pies /and now smoked Grimsby fish now have protected status ,will this be the next product to go to Brussels for protection .

just gargoyled this-seems its no exclusive

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisky

At one time, all whisky was spelled without the "e", as "whisky". In around 1870, the reputation of Scottish whisky was very poor as Scottish distilleries flooded the market with cheaper spirits produced using the Coffey still. The Irish and American distilleries adopted the spelling "whiskey", with the extra "e", to distinguish their higher quality product.

Actually, if you drink Tennents, you're the opposite of picky. Yikes. I've had dishwater that tasted better...
