Car Insurance

I just got my insurance through.

Bearing in mind I've been driving 21 years and claim free for 18, my car cost £12,000.

My insurance quote was £465

The other day I had checked Confused.com the best quote was £332.

Surely the £465 is a major rip of.

You can guess where I'm going.

Has anybody done it via Confused?

Was it just a matter of clicking on the one you want, pay online, and enter credit card details?

Re: Car Insurance

Pretty much. I found it dead easy to use and saved a fair amount.

Re: Car Insurance

I'm mean £133 price difference is beyond a joke.

Mind you one of the quotes on confused was for £1,299, I thought WTF they obviously don't want business.

Re: Car Insurance

I've been using confused.com for years but its now reached a saturation point where it won't get much lower

Mine is about 500 now i think with full no claims, on an 07' Fiesta. Been driving for 12 years with no (current) points.

We used Confused.com last year, never liked the adverts but quite simply it saves going through all the sperate insurance companies one by one

Re: Car Insurance

Try LV direct on their own site as this year for the first time in about 6 years Esure was beaten hands down by them with a £150 saving for exactly the same deal.

Re: Car Insurance

We have just renewed our car insurance this week but used moneysupermarket.com, same set up as confused.com but there are no followup emails and phone calls as you can opt out of followup contacts.

As with Confused, the site is very simple to use, one lot of inputting our details and then sit back for all the quotes to come up. Our original quote was £403.98 (Tesco) and we have insured like for like, plus an upgrade in replacement car, and a lower excess for £191.43.(Saga)

Automatic link to the Saga site to confirm that all the transferred details were OK, paid by debit card and all the documents arrived the next day. Very smooth.

Re: Car Insurance

We go through to Swintons, and we have two cars insured for £600.00 and we argue with them and check elsewhere, but this is the cheapest we have found.

30 years driving, over 50, the cheapest I found on the comparison sites was £hundreds... so went to SAGA... 4000mpy £130... fully comp, protected NCB.

I did the same with www. moneysupermarket.com and ended up paying £23 a month less by going with M&S.

Re: Car Insurance

I would recommend comparing several "screen wipe" sites. It may take sometime entering all the details, but it may be worth it. Some of these sites get a commision, so may not be completely independent.

The reason for anomalous quotes such as one thousand two hundred pounds, is because that company's risk base is for a different sector. They may go for a different market to the one which you represent.

Re: Car Insurance

Recommend one for a 21 year old who's 2 months passed his test with no car (yet). I can't get anybody to insure me driving my parents car (Peugeot 406 estate turbo petrol 2200cc[ish], 51 plate), they all say "it's too powerful".

Re: Car Insurance

Each year I get my renewal, & each year I compare prices on the web. I always find my own company to have the best cover, & the best price, AND, cheaper than my renewal???, so, as my policy expires at midnight, my new one starts at midnight.

Cant understand why they dont just renew it at a reasonable price.

Well, for someone who has just passed his test, I agree, it is too powerful. The 406 Turbo, at one hundred and sixty break horse power, is quite a beast for an inexperienced driver.

And a very high risk for any insurance company.

Re: Car Insurance

I've checked online, but the broker I've been happy with so far generally has a known name at a reasonable deal, and the only online ones cheaper are companies I'd never heard of.

The other thing, of course, is to search at confused and others, then see if you can get the same price through a cashback site.
