My Neighbour Just Left A Skidmark my Sofa

One of my elderly neighbours had just popped around for a quick chat about his charity event and when he left I noticed he had soiled his pants. I did not say anything about it so as not to embarrass him as he is a bit incontinent which I know is common with older people. Anyway after he had gone I noticed he had left a skidmark on my sofa!

It must of seeped through his pants and when he stood up to leave this is when it occurred. I really am not sure what to do? Should I mention it to his wife? And what is the best way to remove such a nasty stain? I am also worried it could occur again.

Tricky situation if this is really happening, but maybe print out this thread and the picture and post it through his door and wait for him to come over.

I think that would be rude and may upset him. It is a very delicate situation to say the least.

Are they loose, removable covers? If so, take it off and look for the wash-care label. With any luck it will machine wash. If not it may be a trip to the dry cleaners. If you wash this one you should probably wash all the sofa's covers at once so you don't just end up with one obviously cleaner than the rest.

I am sure he does not know what a computer is never mind the internet. I just had to get this off my chest as well as trying to find a way of getting it off my sofa.

You're in an awkward position, but i think you need to tell him. Does he have a sense of humour? Could he take a joke about it? If not, then a quiet word and offer him some help. Find out about your local continence services available within your PCT, and pass it onto him.

I also think he wouldn't want it broadcasting, so maybe you should tell him its between just you and him.

Good luck, I wouldn't fancy having to do it myself

Thanks for the advice. The covers do come off so I may put them in the washing machine after I have scrubbed off the top layer first. My concern is I do not want this occurring a second time, once is ****** enough. Do you think I should have a word with is wife?

It depends how well you know them I guess. It might be ok, after you've cleaned them of course, or else she may feel obliged to offer to do it for you.

Does he listen to a radio at all?
Maybe phone a radio show and let him listen to it.
